I support this petition.as a stonemason with a great respect for the traditions of all things stone(except for some moderen practice)id rather loose a leg than let this stone be moved
I want to speak so I'll sign your petition. But I think there is already too much commercial tourism of the rural West. Is a museum in the city not better than making a carnival out of it? Its already been moved from its original location, maybe several times........
This is rubbish.
As it is, the stone is simply an extra device to market a privatly run pet farm.
The historical context of the stone has already been thoroughly lost since the stone was moved from where it was found, and the current display of the stone is extremely poor.
While the petition to keep the stone in its current situation is laudable, it is not practical as the stone itself could never sustain an interpretative centre.
The stone does, however, need to be placed somewhere where elements cannot damage it, and a local museum presents the best option.
This is an absolute disgrace. People should take a walk through UCC and see all the standing stones the English stole from the Irish countryside to enrich their college when Ireland was under occupation. Why is the Dublin Government at the same criminality of destroying our heritage. It must be stopped.
I hope that the turoe stone is still in it native place. As a young girl, my Mother remembers it being moved to dublin for a time, thankfully, it was returned.......let's pray that it stays that way !
