Making VIP Records a Long Beach Landmark

Kelvin Anderson, Owner of “V.I.P. Records” has been doing business in Long Beach for thirty (30) years starting January 15, 1979. After moving to Los Angeles to work for his brother Cletus Anderson, founder of “V.I.P. Records.” He gained seven (7) years of on the job training and knowledge to become the General Manager of the entire “V.I.P.” chain. And within seven (7) months, Kelvin became Owner of the Long Beach location after buying it from Cletus who opened the Location in June of ‘78. In 1992, Kelvin developed an interest in Artist development and began working with several youths in the Long Beach community. Investing money in recording equipment and opened a recording studio at V.I.P. Records, which created opportunities for local talented producers, rappers, and D.J.’s. After working with numerous neighborhood kids, Kelvin turned his attention to who he felt was the most talented young rapper within the community. Who today is known Snoop Dog, who initially was a part of a group named “213”, which included Warren G & Nate Dogg. The trio, with Andersons aid, recorded their early demo, which led all three into getting solo recording deals with major record companies. In 1993, rap superstar Snoop Dog brought global recognition to V.I.P. Records when he shot his first music video “What’s My Name” on the rooftop of the Establishment. From that moment on, V.I.P. Records has become a household name in the music business and throughout the world. People travel from around the world come to V.I.P. to see first hand where the Launching Pad for Long Beach Hip Hop had been created
Over the years, Kelvin has received numerous honors and awards including Urban Network Retailer of the Year, Impact Retailer of the Year, Living Legends Award for Outstanding Excellence and Leadership in the Music Business NAACP Black Businessman of the Year Award, and also several Certificates and acknowledgments from City, State and local Government for his community involvement. In 2006, Kelvin formed a non-profit organization and has received a 501(c) (3) status. “The Kelvin Anderson Foundation” plans to work with at-risk, under privileged, disadvantaged, and homeless youths and young adults who desire not only to get into the music, and entertainment industry. But, also to empower the youth and young adults with necessary knowledge and resources to achieve their goals and dreams. We are looking to officially Looked to Mark The World Famous V.I.P. Records as the Official Landmark of Long Beach Hip-hop.
