WHACK THE PAC

Created by s d on 22 February 2008 @ 8:11:23 AM

If you agree that the building of a Performing Arts Centre in Burlington is a bad idea, please sign this petition and leave your comments.

Added On (2008-02-24):

I do not believe we have been given adequate opportunity to voice our concerns and/or objections, I thought we might be harder to ignore if we had a louder voice - hence, this petition.

Added On (2008-02-25):

When the level of culture in Burlington is such that a $40 million performing arts centre is merited, that would be the time to proceed. This is putting the cart before the horse, the model upon which they are basing this decision and the whoe 10 year strategic plan for Burlington is not realistic for a city this size, and I don't believe it represents the values of the residents. Develop the arts first - you don't buy someone a Stratovarius becuase they have expressed an interest in playing the violin.

472E. SteckowychWhy. as a senior citizen, should I pay taxes for an exclusive group of people?
471Ricky BaeleBelieve McMaster Business school better investment.

469Nancy Laing
468Diana LeveyWhatever level of government, these are still part ofmy taxes and I think the priorityis out of line.
467Ev Chartier
466robert garofaloi believe in democracy. let the people vote in a referendum. something this important should not be left solely to our civic leaders
465John Gamble$383,881 per seat!!!
464Hans FunkeI fully supotr the last statement.
463Bill Shannonthis is great for the artsy fartsy crowd but for the majority a huge tax burden
462D.MaclauchlanThe cost of the Performing Arts Centre is beyond reason. There are centres in Oakville, Hamilton, and the need for one here is not apressing item. Thecost will only escalate, and it wasnot open to the residents until it was a fact. We needmore important things than an ArtCentre, or at leastan Art Centre that is less imposing. How about the roads!!!
461D. MagillMoney could be better spent for health care or education.
460MAUREEN CARROLLI think much better use of any tax money available would be to fund requirements of Joseph Brant Hospital which is desperately in need of help or nail a deal with McMaster for the campus under discussion for so long.Surely the health of our population and the higher education of our young people should be top of the priority list at City Hall.?
459Leslie C. McLean
458Nadine McLean
457Walter TkachenkoPlease contact me, as i have anumber of suggestions and alternate plans that would meet most peaples expectations and not bleed the not so rich residents in perpetuity. W---
456Peter Rotherforth
455John V.CarneThis is not the time for such an expense, that will benefit a relatively few people. Many more important things are needed, and we certainly do not need our taxes increased to pay for this. It's still our money, whether from Provincial, Federal or local
454Jeff TomboliniLet put the money towards another hospital in Burlington
453Philip WaggettI believe that this centre will only benefit a small minority of Burlington
452Gord MatthewsI can't even get my road plowed proper. The City cannot afford this at this time.
451Joan DowneyI don't feel the community can afford this expense at this time and I do not want my taxes increased to fund it.
450Emidio CorvaroStop wasting our money and finish other projects first.Only IDIOTS would start charging for downtown parking then try this money wasted venture.
449Bill McCreadieI feel there are higher priorities. LaSalle park for example is an area where many families go to enjoy nature, yet many trees are in need of repair and or removal before they fall causing injury. This area is enjoyed by many rather that the privaleged few who can afford the cost of parking, meals and an Arts Centre in the downtown.
448David McCallumWhat do we need to spent this money on a Performing Arts Centre. We need new roads
447LisaPerhaps the city should put this money into
446D. Buchko
445Cousin CThere is no accountability by this Council. Health trumps Entertainment every time...I don't think anyone wouldn't want to see Burlington have this centre...but it's not about having one...it's about the fiscial irresponsibility of this council to recognize the continued costs to the taxpayers.
444Serge MayeurWe do not need a Centre in Burlington when we have Hamilton,Strattford and toronto near by.
