The Wisconsin Public Interest Research Group (WISPIRG)is a student run non-profit organization dedicated to involving students in the political process by working on grassroots public interest campaigns. This semester WISPIRG is fighting to lower our campuses' energy consumption, make textbooks more affordable for all students, solve the problem of hunger and homelessness in our community, in crease recycling and composting in Madison and make Madison a fair trade city.
WISPIRG accomplishes its mission by providing students with the resources thy need to win on these issues. Every year, including this year, WISPIRG applies for segregated fee funding from the Student Services Finance Committee (SSFC). This student committee ensures that every dollar WISPIRG and other student groups spend truly benefits all students on the UW-Madison campus. However, this year the chancellor may try to override student authority in allocating segregated fees by stripping WISPIRG of its ability to hire staff. This ability, also known as "contact status" is crucial to ensuring that WISPIRG continues to run a top-notch civic engagement training program.
We, the undersigned, affirm that WISPIRG provides a truly substantial service which is available to all UW-Madison students. We also urge that the chancellor confirm the decision of the SSFC to grant WISPIRG the resources it needs, including contract status, to put on this service for campus.

WISPIRG gives students the best opportunity to learn to make a difference on issues that are so universal. There is no better chance students have to learn grassroots organizing from the best trained professionals in the country. Solving problems like Global Warming, poverty, and low voter turnout has to be a number 1 priority for our society and any effort to obstruct that should be discouraged at every turn.

WISPIRG is a great opportunity for students to be leaders in environmental and social justice issues. Don\'t take this opportunity away from them.
