As you may know, Nova Scotia has some of the lowest wages in the country, especially in the retail industry. Many of you would probably think - then find another job - but for many of us living in small towns, we don't have much choice. Most retail store employees only get minimum wage ($7.65) and the average Store Manager gets $10.00. Sounds ok huh? But consider that an average store managers take home pay for the year is only $15,600 a year! How can any possible survive on that??? With the price of rent and gas only you can't afford to eat let own have any fun. And why is that when minimum wage goes up, usually due to a cost of living increase, the rest of us don't get a raise?? Apparently our cost of living doesn't go up !!
This petition is going to go to the Nova Scotia government force companies to give better wages and force the minimum wage up to at least $8.50 by 2008.
We all work hard for our money, its about time we get paid for our efforts
