For years now, I've been seeing dead, dying, suffering, mistreated bettas in walmart stores all over the place. I simply can't take it anymore. Not once have I seen a walmart betta that seemed to be healthy at all. Wal-mart is sucking the very life out of those beutiful, finned angels.

However, I HAVE observed many pet stores where hardly any bettas are sick or treated poorly. All good pet stores have a "fishy hospital" where ALL medications that could be needed are kept. This is something that many wal-marts lack. With proper feeding (small servings of hakari pellets or preferebly, freeze-dried bloodworms twice a day) clean water (50% of cup water changed every other day) and as mentioned earlier, medications for emergencies, a betta fish can thrive in a "cup" as long as there is a bit of swimming room. With these things, we won't have to see so much animal torture when we shop at a walmart store.
On that note, wamart could fairly easily sell healthy, live bettas instead of hopeless dying ones. However, a vast majority of walmart employees haven't a clue how to care for the poor fishes and there managers dont give them proper information so the uncaredfor fish die unloved. Every walmart employee should know the basic rules of how to care for bettas. They are very simple fish that do not need endless attention and care, and with some reliable info, walmart can turn into a great place to buy bettas. Give those employees the right betta education!

So as I've said before, we CAN turn walmart into a safe, good home for bettas! Join in the action. You can help in any number of ways; tell your freinds, sign this petition, or stand up and go to your local walmart! Spread the word to walmart employees, and we can sae the lives of 100s of bettas every day. Visit my website or give this adress to a walmart employee to start the change: www.freewebs.com/phoebe72. My website is stuffed with lots of info about bettas, but the BETTA CARE PAGE has all the simple information needed to make walmart safe for the betta fish.

I have seen so many dead fish in Walmart tanks, and they keep bettas in such tiny cups. I bought a betta from there because I wanted him to have a better home, he had about an inch of water in his cup because there was a crack and his water was leaking.

Fish may be small, but they are living creatures that should not be mistreated.
