We Want Cusick
Published August 3, 2010
We love the Boston Bruins. We love the city it represents and the players that have donned a spoked-B or brown bear since the team's inception on November 1, 1924 to today and well into the future. We love it's culture. It's heritage. It's history.

And that's why we think it's time the Black N' Gold pay tribute to a man that was a huge part of Bruins history without ever lacing up the skates for the Bruins. We're talking about the legendary Fred Cusick.

As fans we were stoked to see the Bruins organization celebrate his life with a pre-game ceremony and dedicate the broadcast booth to him. Many of us were lucky enough to be there.

But we think there's still a better way to honor the great Cusick and remember what he was known for -- his voice.

Currently after every goal, fans hear the announcer rattle off the goal scorer and assists, followed by the Ric Flair "Woo!". While it's not a horrible celebration, a few other NHL teams do something similar. Like the team's culture and heritage, the Bruins post-goal celebration should also be unique and reflect that history. We have a better idea.

Why not honor Cusick by playing a sound byte of his famous "SCORE!" after every Bruins goal? Surely a much better way to celebrate a goal and honor a man that meant so much to both the Bruins and fans alike.

Think of the Bruins scoring a huge goal in the playoffs followed by Cusick's "SCORE!" with every fan in attendance yelling the same. It would electrify the crowd and bring back the ghosts of the old Boston Garden. We can't think of a better way to honor Fred Cusick.

During the dedication ceremony, the PA announcer noted that "Fred will always be connected to the thousands of great Bruins moments and his unmistakable voice will be forever missed."

Well, why not connect Fred's voice to the thousands of new memories the Bruins have yet to produce?

Sincerely,
Fans of the Boston Bruins
