I support this wholeheartedly. It is ludicrous to have someone who doesn't know soccer lead the commentating team, and most of the US soccer commentators under him aren't much better. Stop cheating your own countrymen of quality World Cup coverage.
A goal is a goal! Not a "score". Please inform Dave O'Brien of this so that he doesn't sound as rediculous as he already does calling football (soccer) games. A lot of people will be tuned in to watch the biggest sporting event in the world from here in the U.S. so don't let uneducated announcers tarnish ESPN's reputation. It's not baseball, so don't call it like baseball. Also, I hope Balboa learned a thing or two sitting side-saddle with his mentors calling the Champions League final on ESPN.
I must admit that I have watched football (soccer) for many years and the level of comentary is pretty bad. I think that ESPN, could show a commitment to the game and bring in a commentator who's first choice and passion was football.
Thank you
very strongly indeed...As a Swede I rarely get excited but I beg you not to mess up the greatest event that will ever grace the US airwaves. get ESPN a proper commentator...don't be stupid!!
Less useless chatter would be much appreciated.I usually get so frustrated listening to these idiots that I switch to Spanish or Italian stations.I do not need to fully understand to enjoy the game
I support this petition because I support this petition. Rob Stone, Eric Wynalda,JP Dellacamera, Marcello Balboa, Dave Obrien areall BAD BAD BAD. If you use them I will not watchyour channel and i will not support the companiesthat sponsor your broadcast. I suggest Derek Rae,Smyth, Healey, or the European English languageaudio feeds.
Unfortunately, I am thankful that there is an english language broadcast for the world cup. I am disappointed that ESPN have chosen a "non" entity in the world of soccer to call the most interesting competition in sports. Dave O' Brian should not be an announcer for the World Cup. You ESPN wouldn't dare have Tommy Smith call the World Series...Would you?
No offense to Mr. O'Brien, but international football knowledge is not something that can be garnered in a few short months, prior to the grandest international football competitioin of them all.
i will be going to UNIVISION and even though i can't understand a lick of spanish... it's done in protest of your stupid stations with that stupid bar scrolling that cuts the screen in half...
your annoncers suck and your broadcast sucks... it's geared towards little kids... as a true disney station would...
thanks... but no thanks.
With the World Cup being just that, a world sporting event, having commentators who have added familiarity with world football leagues, players, and playing styles would only complement your broadcasts, and do justice to your moniker "The Worldwide Leader in Sports".
