I'm watching the Iran/Mexico game ... I always thought that "JP" was the worst, but Dave is HORRIBLE! Where do you get these guys? Balboa is equally bad. Across the board, ABC should be embarrassed about the quality of their TV teams, but then again, ABC obviously doesn't know enough about the game to be embarrassed. Blissful ignorance. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm off to change the channel to the Spanish broadcast.
I suppose it is too late now, but could Dave O'brien suck anymore. It is as if this bonehead has never done any professional commentating. He needs to stick to something he knows, and it certainly isn't soccer!!!!
ESPN is going downhill. Stuart Scott is the worst thing on TV, but yet Kenny Mayne only does horse racing. ESPN only does stories on Bonds, the retarded kid who hit 20 3's, and Army's coach who died. You are telling me there aren't any other sports stories besides those and some team that was hurt by Katrina? Get over yourself ESPN, you are angering a lot of people. My friends an I are about to boycott your channel.
i completely support this petition! to tell you the truth - even though i don't speak spanish i prefer univision commentary. espn commentary is flat and pre-season nba like... no excitement, no emotional understanding of the game.

The Argentina-Ivory coast announcing was horrible. I don't need someone to explain the offsides rule to me for 45, and tell me his opinion on the calls for the other 45. The announcers greatly decreased my viewing pleasure. It was absolutely horrible.

I have watched every game that espn and abc are broadcasting and have come to the conclusion that america doesn't like football because your american announcers are so BAD!!! Using terminology from american football, baseball, and basketball!?! It is very disturbing and insulting to your viewers and the amazing players. I can hardly watch with the volume on.
I suggest you pipe into the BBC broadcast or just let your english announcers on air. For how much you have spent on the rights to broadcast this amazing event, I would think you could get some announcers that know what they are talking about.
Until then I will be supporting the world cup with the mute button on. and trying my hardest for someone to listen. This is very important for a lot of people and to ruin it would be a shame.

ESPN's commentary of the World Cup opener was so bad as to be distracting. Balboa repeatedly had to correct the play-by-play commentator's innanities. Do the kind of Americans who watch the World Cup at noon on a workday need to be told that Costa Rica is a country in Central America? If you speak half a word of Spanish, the only solution seems to be to watch Univision.
O'Brient just "called" the Germany/CR opener. Absolutely pathetic. Are you people scard soccer might actually catch on with competent commentators. Get rid of the guy.
You must use experienced commentators who know the game of soccer especially for the Worlds biggest sporting event...ESPN do the decent thing and use Derek Rae as you have been doing.Would like to see Dave O'Brien quizzed on his soccer knowledge...and how long as he been doing major soccer event commentating
