As many Xbox 360 owners are aware, Microsoft has put some extremely restrictive Digital Rights Management policies into affect. If you download premium content (be it video games, movies, television shows, or additional game content) it ends up tied to the console it was originally downloaded to. That means if you purchase a new system because your original console broke, was stolen, or lost you lose the ability to use these downloads unrestrcited. Instead, the content can only be accessed by the account that originally downloaded it and only when that account is online. This is despite that the user legitimately paid for the content. In essence, it would be the equivalent of saying a game or DVD you purchased would only be useable on the original machine you played it on. Obviously, this is extremely unfair to the consumer who may not have a choice of whether to replace their system as a result of circumstances. This petition for consumers to voice their displeasure over this situation and to demand that Microsoft change the way their DRM features are handled. Preferrable, they could use a system like iTunes that allows for the limited transferring of lisences from one system to another. If you have any comments to include, feel free to use the email option on the petition. Comments may be forwarded to Microsoft with this petition. |

26 Jun 2008 - 0:57 bnudding : In my country i cant find any microsoft points cards, so i bought them at the US, so i made a US account that i just use to download content,so later my console brokes with the RROD, and when exchange it on Best Buy, all my profiles, except the US one, couldn't play any of the arcade games, and my saved games like forza2 that used downloadable content couldn load because there were missing the files, this is not fair, I wont boy any downloadable content until they fix this, I shall better buy PS3. |
20 Apr 2008 - 6:28 Jon D. Francis : I expect that if I give more money to Microsoft (i.e., another $400 for a new console since the first one broke after a year) that I should not be made to endure any additional restrictions to use what I lawfully and legally bought. If I am not distributing the content to other people, I have done nothing illegal, but Microsoft has since legally they are not |
3 Apr 2008 - 4:36 Jared : Iv read much of this and have come to a point of sickness. im frustrated and speachless Downloadable content will never be paid for by me again. |
8 Mar 2008 - 10:07 James Booth : My Xbox live ID is: MALICOUS ZERO.and i no long have access to the internet so i only discovered recently that all of my xbox live content has been locked from me!I honestly feel penalised for upgrading my xbox 360 to the xbox 360 elite. I dont understant how microsoft can do this just because someone wants to invest more money into one of there consoles! |
28 Feb 2008 - 1:54 Lois Johnson-Young : I support your right to use DRM, however, it is far too restrictive to say that I can only move the games I purchased to the new XBOX I bought from you if I let you watch me play them from now on. I am sure you can fix this negative customer experience. Your cusotmers just want what they paid for - that shouldn't be too much to ask - I can't believe you have taken this long and haven't done anything to fix this problem. |
14 Feb 2008 - 0:43 Joe : Microsoft, you have billions of dollars.... So f--k off already, you greedy sacks of s--t. |

12 Dec 2007 - 14:53 Jonathan Ogden : |
25 Nov 2007 - 8:23 AJ Fuhrmann : I have had a similar problem, I like the authorization/deauthoriza tion idea. It is good for those of us that migrated to Elite, but kept their old console (what else are you gonna do with it?). Really, I am the only that uses my DLC and perhaps my little brother will on the Christmas holidays. I would like for him to be able to make his own gamertag on my xbox, instead of having to lug my 20GB hard drive and making him play on my gamertag. It's just a hassle, please let us use the stuff that we bought from you. |

15 Oct 2007 - 22:23 L Quintana : This definately needs to be taken care of! As if we didnt pay MS enough money already! |
15 Oct 2007 - 0:19 Sean Murphy : My original 360 broke down, requiring a return to the game store. I was planning on purchasing a new 360, but until this issue is taken care of, I won't be. |
14 Oct 2007 - 18:44 Alex Overy : Microsoft this needs sorting |
12 Oct 2007 - 0:39 Kevan Bodkn : I got taken advantage of by Microsoft this time. I was specifically told after my console was replaced NOT repaired due to the ring of death, that I would simply have to re-download the content to access it again, not that I would always have to be logged into xbox live to play it, or that my two 220 hour Oblivion saves are now useless without being logged in due to the fact that it will not launch the saves unless I AM logged in. This problem needs to be solved, not pushed to the side by a greedy company that cares more about sales than offering something that works. |
25 Sep 2007 - 19:26 Ludvig Tunel : |
22 Sep 2007 - 23:15 Angel Santana : MS has really let me down. The console is great but the faults to it are even greater. How do they expect to have loyal customers when they seem to show no appreciation to use. I am having way too many problems with the Xbox 360 and I didn't pay all that money for this to happen |
13 Sep 2007 - 23:50 chris : give us what we paid for |
11 Sep 2007 - 6:03 Chris P : I agree with the statements made by this petition. |

10 Aug 2007 - 16:37 Kaleb Michaud : Having a broken xbox, buying a new one and regretting all the problems associated with it! |
2 Aug 2007 - 17:36 Alan Hildebrandt : I agree this is not the right solution. As an Original, Premium and now Elite Xbox owner, this needs to change. |
28 Jul 2007 - 0:06 lauren : |
24 Jul 2007 - 9:21 eric ferreira : xbox screwed me too |
16 Jul 2007 - 4:38 Ayhan : I bought this new hard drive thinking this would be an awesome new experience. I bought a lot of online videos, which filled up my hard drive really quick. And since I'm a college student, I can't guarantee I can get internet all the time! This totally ruins my plans of giving my console to my friend! |
13 Jul 2007 - 13:03 Stéphane Hayes : |
13 Jul 2007 - 10:31 Jay Philbrook : Google the following for my opinion:Downloadable Content Abstinence |
9 Jul 2007 - 20:37 Douglas Rukavina : |
26 Jun 2007 - 18:44 Dennis Miller : |
16 Jun 2007 - 22:13 Eric Deas : |
15 Jun 2007 - 9:34 Brandon Martin : After having my console die I spent several weeks going back and forth with M$ about getting my content back. After finally getting it, I then upgraded to an Elite and am back in the same boat now. A better method needs to be found to make these transfers. |
14 Jun 2007 - 13:23 Jay : I want to use the content / games that I've purchased without restriction. If I buy a disc with that contentent / game on it I can do with it what I please, so why does mirosoft feel the need to screw us when we use the marketplace? |
5 Jun 2007 - 17:48 Stephen Roebuck : Rights Management is a touchy subject, and I understand it's hard to keep everyone happy. But really, there should be some way to tie downloaded content to a new serial # and remove the reference to the old one. That way only one box can have offline access at a time, and everyone can be happy. |
5 Jun 2007 - 16:37 Deniz Ozbey : |
31 May 2007 - 11:22 Jacob : I want an Elite, mainly for the new hard drive and was going to sell my Premium, but I won't unless I can access my stuff offline. I come to my parents house during the summer and they don't have the internet. Also, at school, the internet is quirky, and not worth chancing. Change this policy and you get more money out of me. If not, you don't. |
24 May 2007 - 22:39 Sam Grossman : signed |
22 May 2007 - 19:19 Daniel Rodriguez : I upgraded to a Elite and got ripped off, now my wife can't play games on her Gamertag that I have already bought! > |
