We, the undersigned, call upon the U.S. Congress to repeal Section 43 of title 18, United States Code, entitled the Animal Enterprise Terrorism Act, because:

• The AETA is an unnecessary law that will not prevent, reduce or stop terrorism;
• The AETA violates the First Amendment in that its broad language criminalizes lawful activities such as protests, boycotts, picketing, and whistleblowing and, in doing so, chills and suppresses First Amendment protected activity;
• The AETA violates the 14th Amendment, which provides that the law cannot treat individuals differently on arbitrary grounds, such as the content of speech;
• The AETA misplaces federal resources and attention away from effective counter-terrorism;
