I think that people should be able to act however they want and not be discriminated against. And no, I don't mean only "black people" should not be discriminated against, "white people" and every other race and creed too. I am a white male and I am discriminated against every day. People think of me as "whitey". But, once they get to know me, they find out I am quite the opposite. That is the kind of thing we need to work against. People need to realize that skin tone and heritage do not define intelligence and behavior. We are defined by our experiences and the actions we make.
One example is: A black male is poor and has lived in a project his whole life. He is "ghetto". But, is it the fact that he is African-American that makes him become "ghetto" or is it his living conditions? If a white male were to live in the same project under the same conditions, would he not become "ghetto" also?
Another example: A black male and a white male both grow up in a wealthy suburb. Does the white person become any more "white" than the black person?
That is why we should all be treated like equals. After all, we are all animals. We do have the gift of intelligence but that does not change the fact that we are living, breathing, and feeling creatures. If you really think having a specific skin colour automatically defines your character: being white means you have to act in a certain way etc., then there will always be a racial divide. First of all, what does it mean to "act black"? I am a blackman and I do not find it as part of my culture to be "gansta" or "thug". These are media produced roles projected and targeted towards our youth to keep us as a people from really awakening and becoming a part of the productive civilized world. Many of our people (black) are totally brainwashed and mislead. Most of these so-called gangstas are nothing but immitators of what they see on t.v. and in the movies, such as "Scarface" "Goodfellas" and other screen characters. You can clearly see this in many of the music videos. The music industry is playing a major role in the degredation of our black youths. During the 1970's black people were really learning to love one another, and take control of their community's businesses. Even in the music then you could hear the black love and respect. Blackmen began to feel very proud of themselves because they were learning about themselves and their royal history through the music.
