It has recently come to my attention that some of the ironman qualification races don't have enough slots for all the age groups completing. There are normally 22 age groups and often only 20 Hawaii Ironman slots available at the race. As a result, usually the oldest age groups are left with no slots. None of us is getting any younger and the sport of triathlon really benefits both in interest and motivation by having older athletes competing right along with the other age group athletes. If a race is going to offer Ironman slots, they should offer at least one per age group.
