Horse slaughter is a rediculous way of "getting rid of" animals. Why not try giving them away for proven responsible people? I know others, like myself, that would LOVE to own a horse, but don't have the money. The closest I could ever get to owning an equine is a miniature donkey...

God also put us adults in charge of children...does that mean that we can kill them too? Horses are intelligent and beautiful animals. This is just like the disgusting practice of killing 10 million dogs and cats in animal shelters every year in the U.S. It is sad that our society is so careless about life.
Excuse me, Mr.Tall Paul, but let's take a look at the many, many retired racehorses that have been sent to slaughter. None of them died of natural causes did they? These bright, young animals had so much to live for, but suddenly, they aren't making us money, so "Hey! Let's just kill them!" It's cruel, wrong, unfair and unjust. Just because a horse is aged or retired or wild doesn't mean it deserves to die. If anything, the beauty of these animals should be preserved for as long as possible. I've been unfortunate enough to know several horses who've died of illness and age over the past few years and none of them were ever killed! They were given a proper burial and will always be remembered for the light they brought to so many children's eyes, including my own. It isn't right to kill another living, breathing, feeling creature and it needs to stop.

You know what i am young and to see a horse hurt in any way kills me after seeing my own horse put down and yet to day people fail to relize that horses have done so much for us. Even today a seen a man put a 3 inch chain around a horses neck and tie it to the bumper of a truck to bring the horse home i am now the new owner of that very same horse i am doing my duty to horses but yet others are eating them its inhuman

Please do not allow unwanted, wild, retired race horses to be slaughtered for any reason, let alone for consumption in Europe. I am appalled that this is an ongoing horrific practice in the United States. Please do everything you can to stop this senseless killing.
Hey Tall Paul, how would you know that horse slaughter is painless? How do you know that these horses aren't actually tortured? Yes, they are TORTURED. Think about it. These horses do so much for us. It doesn't hurt to end their life by humanely euthinizing them. And the bolt gun DOES NOT KILL THEM it stuns them. They are killed when their throats are slit and the blood drips to their nose and they drown. Some are actually consious while doing that! Have you ever felt the pain of suffering? DO YOU EVEN KNOW WHAT THEY GO THROUGH! They have taken us through war, been our trail partners for life, and done everything to please us. And now look what we do to them.

what have they done?If bush allows these animals to be killed, how can he call himself a farmer? a man of the land? He is killing off our past. our heritage. or culture. I am strongly opposed to the murder of these beautiful creatures. Not only are they killed inhummanely, but they are eaten by the very rich in places such as Italy and Japan. They are not fed to dogs as many believe. Also, since in America, horses are not considered food animals, they can be fed medications that stay in their body and could cause harm to the person who eats the meat.
However, there is a mistake in your information. The horses, once herded into the 'kill box' or waiting stall are shot in the head with a captive bolt gun, but this is not to kill them. This is done to stun them but often the aim is off and the horses will be hoisted into the air by their rear legs and have their throat slit still aware of their surrounding. They bled to death within the sight of other horses about to be shot.

This post is utterly decietful. Horses are not tourtured. Most die of natural causes or disease. By the FREE CHOICE OF THE OWNER, the horse may be sent to slaughter when no longer useful for packing or riding. Yes, the horse is killed by a bolt driven through the skull at extreme speed. It is painless. It is then used in dog food and MANY other valuble by- products. "Then God said: 'Let us make man in our image, after our likeness.
