Off Leash recreation is critical to the health and well being of dogs and helps build diverse communities of dog owning citizens who care deeply about their parks.
Responsible dog owners respectfully sharing city parks. This policy helps socialize dogs so they can live joyfully in an urban environment and helps build human communities as well.
Responsible off-leash policies here in New York City have provided a quality of life for dogs and their owners not to be found in any suburb - anywhere.
This is about dog owner recreation. We've been paying taxes to pay for other's recreational facilities while dog owners got nothing. It is time for the city to work w/us so that our needs will be met.
As we push laws to ban trans fat and exercise for good health. We need to support our dogs the same rights to good health and that is to have teh freedom to run freely and spread their legs. They need to run and get some exercise as well. We need to speak for our dogs.
This is a great opportunity for the dogs to socialise and become better in their behavior towards animals and people.
I go to the park everyday with my beagle(Madison) and she is sweet and friendly with other dogs, adults and especially children.
This is because I have socialised her in this kind of environment. Also I have shown children and adults how to behave around dogs.
I have learned a lot myself from Madison and people in the park. The park is a beautiful and fun place to be.
The main important thing also, is that the dog owners should make sure that they are always in control of their dogs at all times.
Not all dog owners live near a good dog run, and some dogs don't do well in dog runs. That is why this bill is so important. We must have secure off leash hours in city parks so that thousands of NY dogs get to be dogs! A simple walk around the block will suffice for some dogs, but many more need exercise that only off leash time can bring.
I have socialized and exercised my dog off leash for the past 7 years which has resulted in one happy, well behaved companion. It goes to show you that these off leash hours do benefit the dogs and I enjoy meeting my friends each day as well.
I was in Riverside Park at about 9:30pm one night when a young scared guy ran up to me. He said he was almost mugged and that when he saw me with my dogs he immediately sought us out for protection. We all walked out of the park together. I wouldn't have been there in the first place if my dogs couldn't be off leash.
Dogs are feeling creatures. By nature, they must be entitled to sufficient exercise.
On leash walking does not satisfy exercise requirements for most dogs. Thank you
I support off- leash hours because they benefit NYC residents in both direct and indirect ways. It has been a good public policy but it will be even better and safer once clear rules are written.
Now that both the NYS Supreme Court and the NYC Health Board have spoken strongly and unequivocally in favor of off-leash recreation, we need clear and fair written rules that will govern the successful 20-year off-leash hour policy going forward.
