Taking my dog to the park after dropping my children at school and before arriving at work represents the only time in my schedule that I can enjoy the park and the community of early morning dog enthusiasts. It would be a terrible personal blow to me and my pet to be bound to a leash during our morning walks.
I think it is extremely important that we continue to allow our pets to run off-leash during the specified times and areas to insure their health and well-being. We will be responsible owners and keep our pets under control at all times.

It seems perfectly reasonable to allow dogs to run about and socialize with each other without a leash before 9:00 in the morning in public parks. Then for the rest of the day, they need to be on a leash. Pretty simple and easy.
Our wheaten is a happier, healthier, more socialized dog when he runs off leash. When dogs aren't socialized they can be mean. NYC wants its dogs to be socialized for safety reasons, and this is the safest way to do it.
I cannot imagine any form of life favoring a life of restraints over freedom. The least we can do is give them a few hours of the day to run against the wind.
I support the off-leash policy. Animals need a refuge in which to run and play...it ensures they are happier, more well-behaved dogs. If any 1 dog is found to be aggressive, that right should be refused to that owner/dog on 1-off basis.
On several occasions we have been asked by women walking across the park in the late evenings if they could walk with us for saety reasons. If our dog, a golden named Chance, weren't off the leash, there would be no reason for my husband and I to go to the park at night and provide this neighborly act.
There is nothing like the happiness of my two dogs when they are able to go off leash. And of course, that makes me happy too. Even though they're "off leash", it's very controlled. Losing the privilege would be personally devastating.
This petition may be one of the more important quality of life issue that has come to the forefront of discussion in NYC. Healthier, more active animals are less likely to be the nuisance that the average New Yorker is frightened by. As long as the waste laws are properly enforced, this is the happy medium that the city's dog owner's and non- dog owners need.
Thank you.
