I would ask the Parks Department to remember the mutually beneficial relationship between their body and the dog owners of Prospect Park who have spent so much of the past twenty years diligently working to support their policies. Without dog owners to actively assist in paving the way, Prospect Park wouldn't nearly be the safe haven it is today. I would only ask that the Parks Department to formalize the "gentleman's agreement" struck so many years ago. Thank you.
All park users benefit from responsible dog use of the park, dogs are only off-leash during permitted hours, owners clean up after dogs and the parks are safer during off leash hours. We can co-exist !
i support the ratification of the offleash policy.
both me and my dog are healthier for being able to walk offleash in the park. early mornings and late evenings.
If dog owners can demonstrate that we can pick up after our dogs in the parks, we should have the privilege to exercize our dogs off leash in the parks. The times allowed should be expanded as long as we keep the parks clean and our dogs well-behaved. But please people, pick up after the dogs in the street! It gives all of us a bad reputation, and makes it harder to get more privileges like off-leash in the parks.
i don't have a dog now but when i do i hope i will be allowed to take him off the leash at certain times. its important for the dog's happiness and training. and nothing is better than watching dogs run around and play.
Notwithstanding the benefit to dogs and their owners, having dogs off-leash in Stuyvesant Park and other parks like it at night chased away the drug dealers and made the park safe for everyone.
This is a sensible
regulation which,
if properly
administered, will
allow all of the park
users to enjoy the park
facilities without
impinging upon oneanother's
enjoyment.
Off-leash privileges make owning a dog in NYC a pleasure. But I do not like off-leash at night. No one picks up the poop because they can't find it if the dog is far away. My area of the park is disgusting lately. I think dawn to 9 am are the right hours for off-leash.
I represent Woodside Organization of Furry Friends (WOOFF), a dog-run group in Woodside Queens. We support off-leash recreation as it is vital to the health of dogs and provides an informal way for people to come together in their communities.
