I was born and raised here in Manhattan, and I cannot (for the life of me) understand why Central Park's 843 acres DOES NOT INCLUDE EVEN ONE ACRE OF DOG RUN. Shame on us...the greatest city in the world, and LOOK how we treat our beloved furry family members. At the least, keep the law which allows SOMETIME off-leash. It makes my city much less of a concrete jungle, and much more sincere to have canine companions for all residents who can give them back just as much love. Those who hate dogs, or are against the off-leash policy, just don't get it. Do they?
Off-leash hours don't just benefit my dog, they're also one of the favorite parts of my day. It's how I enjoy NYC parks, whoch I help to support by being respectful of the hours and paying taxes.
Well-exercised dogs are well-behaved dogs. Codifying offleash hours and broadly publicizing them will enable all people-- dog-friendly and not-- to enjoy the parks on their own terms.
