It is shocking that we have a 843 acre park in the middle of this beautiful city, and yet THERE IS NO DOG RUN WITHIN CENTRAL PARK? And, now the dog-haters hope to keep the furry members of our family from romping OFF-hours, off-leash. We cannot allow this, as New York City is already a contrete metropolis that strives to have a big heart, and a big personality.
Without the encouragement to new-comers to own dogs, we put the balance of concrete and the wonderment of nature at odds--
And...have you not heard? It's NOT NICE TO FOOL WITH MOTHER NATURE.

Dogs in New York City are the best cared for and best behaved (most socialized) of any in the US due in large part to off-leash hours. Let's formalize this policy so that selfish and ignorant people cannot undo the benefits that off-leash hours have given New York City over the past 20 years.
i've been concerned about the situation where there's no place in new york where you can actually run your dog. no matte how well-trained a dog is, if we're caught with no leash we risk the possibility of heavy fines. it's making new york a place where having dogs is not possible, really.
Let's formalize this policy - it is something that we as New Yorkers can be very proud of. Where else in the world can so many different people (AND animals!) with so many different views find ways to live together in harmony and still enjoy our freedom?
Governed off-leash time has proven to be better for all park goers! Lower crime, cleaner parks, decreased dog attacks...the science is there, please keep the off-leash time for the betterment of the city!
Dogs who are well socialized are more balanced and mentally stable. Off leash time is an important priviledge for dogs, their owners and the people of NYC.
Living in a conjested area it is difficult to walk a dog in the street without being run over by cars. Bringing my dogs to a park to roam freely (within limits) is a destesser and has made my dogs very calm when at home. All my friends and neighbors say what good dogs I have. I believe this is because they go to the park every morning before 9AM. We have been doing this for 11 years. I hope to be able to continue.

Available off-leash hours are good for all people, our parks, and of course the dogs. Dog owners populate the parks during off-leash times, making the parks safer, and causing a greater sense of community. A responsibly well-exercised dog is likely to be happier and more docile towards people in general. It's win-win for the people of the city! Thank you for your consideration.
I believe the off leash law and the hours it provides our dogs to socialize, run and play is extremely important to the well being of our dogs and the owners as well.
