Not only is this good for the dogs, it is good for the owners too. Through off leash hours I have met many interesting New Yorkers of vastly different ages and economic brackets than mine own. Off leash hours truly helps build a better and safer community.
It is imperative that those of us who have dogs in our life-- many in lieu of children-- can play responsibly in the parks with everyone else.. mostly it is dogs and their owners that help keep the parks safe...oweners should pick up after their dogs-- keep them within reasonable distance to them-- and be allowed to exercise together... it keeps for good health and sanity not just for the owner and their dog--but the city as a whole.. those that are not neutured perhaps should be on leash-- but otherwise, responsible owners and their dogs should be allowed the right to play freely in the park as long as they dont disturb anybody. thanks for listening.
I strongly support this amendment which will allow responsible dog owners to exercise and socialize their dogs during limited hours and in designated locations in City parks.
Off leash hours are critical to the health and well being of New York City dogs. They are healthier and happier dog citizens when they can enjoy off leash hours in the park.
