We, the undersigned, love our respective AFL clubs.

With this petition we surrender our on-field rivalries indefinitely and together express a vehement discontent with current AFL policy.

We believe it to be unfair, unjust, and fundamentally nonsensical that two AFL clubs (the Brisbane Lions and the Sydney Swans) are granted an extra six hundred thousand dollars each year to spend on playing personnel.

We believe this policy presents two clubs out of sixteen with a distinct fiscal advantage. Such a policy flies in the face of competitive sporting logic.

We ask not that this allowance is abolished in two year’s time, or three year’s time, or whensoever the AFL chooses. We demand that the salary cap bonuses gifted to both Brisbane and Sydney be immediately repealed at the end of the 2004 AFL season.

Together we await a wave of media-fuelled cynicism regarding this petition. We don’t care. We are not envious of Brisbane. We are not unsympathetic to the AFL’s northern state cause.

We are simply pissed off.
