Apple, give us Blu-ray support in DVD Studio Pro!
Published June 2, 2009
Dear Apple,
We are professionals in the film and broadcast industry and we all of us are big fans and users of Final Cut Studio. We hope that the new version will bring a range of new updates and address issues that are long overdue.
The most important of these much-needed improvements is the support of Blu-ray in DVD Studio Pro.
As we all know, no Mac has shipped with a Blu-ray recorder yet. You are said to be favoring digital downloads over any new physical medium supporting high definition video content.
Let us say that while digital downloads certainly are an important development, they cannot and will not replace physical media in professional client - agency - production company environments.
We need 1080p and 720p high definition content delivered in the best quality for our clients to approve. Due to the size of the files there is no other options apart from delivering a relatively cheap physical medium which is the Blu-ray disc.
The Blu-ray disc is the standard now, and you have to accept and support it, for the sake of your professional customers. Rumors of the new Final Cut Studio version suggest that you still do not face the facts - but Blu-ray is the standard now. Licensing issues can and have to be sorted out.
We, the undersigned, will not buy a new version of Final Cut Studio if it is still lacking Blu-ray support.
We will have to resort to alternatives if Blu-ray support is still not there as we cannot let our clients wait for two more years.
Apple, give us Blu-ray support in DVD Studio Pro!
