Pedestrian safety is a must in Yerevan streets. Strict traffic rules are to be enforced to avoid chaos and unnecessary loss of life. During my recent 3-month stay in Yerevan I did not see a single traffic cop issue a single traffic violation ticket to a reckless driver--in fact, I didn't see any traffic cops in the busy intersections of Yerevan!
"Clean" up Yerevan traffic!
It is your duty and your sworn responsibility to protect the people, and people's rights.
The road inspection service in Armenia cares more about getting its 1000 AMD bribe for violation rather than explainig the driver about the danger of reckless driving or punishing bad drivers.
I cannot even imagine the despair and frustration of this poor girl's family. I really do hope this petition will reach its addressees and will solve this huge problem and risk that we all face every day in our good old city of Yerevan. Something has gotta change in this country!
I have a feeling that if one is a member of the government or rich in Armenia the laws do not apply to him/her. The criminal who cut short Araz' life is not the first or the last one who will not suffer the consequences of his/her crime. Shame.
I met Araz twice couple of years ago. It was the most heartbreaking news to hear about the accident of this beautiful angel. This is a brilliant idea to help prevent other tragic losses. I am sure we can help Araz's family to make a change that will benefit ever citizen or visitor in Armenia.
Guys, you are about to sign the petition, which unfortunately won't work... They can adopt a good and new law, but this is not enough, they should first adopt their own brains to drive properly and respect laws!
I visited Yerevan last September, 2006 and I loved it. However, the traffic is terrible and I was so disappointed with the way Armenians drive. For the sake of all people, Armenians (and visitors as well), please do stop this nonsense and put some rules and discipline in place. I was so ashamed in front of visitors and had nothing to say / defend against their critisism. The traffic, plus some other diffecencies, have a great negative effect on tourism too. Armenia has the very good potential in encouraging the tourism industry, but something must be done at least to bring the traffic into a standard, acceptable and normal level. Armenia, especiall Yerevan's streets and interesting places, monuments, churches, etc. need also more signs in English as well, if we need to improve and increase our tourism. I don't understand how Armenian public can handle and tolerate this situation and live with this traffic, something that is not too difficult to fix!!? I believe in Armenians intelligence and their capacity and ability to solve this problem as soon as possible! Please do not postpon solving this issue and start educating the drivers with internationaly acceptable traffic laws, rules and regulations.
Regards, Vartan Azad
I am well aware of how many drivers in Armenia are totally disrespectful of pedestrian rights (I lived in Armenia from 1991-1997). I think the reasons for such state of mind and behavior are many folded, societal, civic, psychlogical, and cultural. The remedies need to be multi-pronged as are the reasons.
Move Youself You Ministers! How long you wanna see the lives fade in such a goddamn accidents huh?? just forget your bellies for a second! do you call yourself Armenian??! Let them Burn in Eternal Flames of Hell who don't care about their People and Country..
I have binge in Armenia and i dont like the way they drive,No respect for human life, I ask you to please enforce your low by your low officers.
No one is above the low safety of pedestrian comes first. Thank you. Karekin
Traffic violation is a general problem in Armenia which the authorities do not taking it serious.
The court that issued the verdict should be ashamed of their conduct and similar issues should be publicized not only in Armenia but elsewhere in order to put pressure on the authorities to deal harshly with such corrupt judges and courts.
i wanna tell all Armenian friends, to not talk about X-sovet Armenia, this is a life cycle, remember the 1.5 million we lost.Rest In Peace Arazik.we must love our country in the way it is in. i love you my ppl.
I hope this petition will raise awareness with the officials concerning the appauling judiciary and legal systems in ex-soviet republics and in particular Armenia. The judge should be named and shamed.
