We, the undersigned, are requesting the State of Arizona to enact an infertility insurance mandate. Currently, 15 states in the U.S. are required to offer or treat infertility. These mandates were designed to make conception more affordable (and less emotionally draining) to the 1 of 6 couples that struggle with the disorder. Studies in mandated states have shown that infertility mandates do not greatly increase premiums. In some respects, the mandate helps to save health care dollars. In non-mandated states, since women and men cannot afford more than one cycle, they may dangerously request to transfer more embryos than may be safe. As a result, they may become pregnant with multiples, increasing the cost of prenatal care, delivery, and neonatal intensive care. With multiples, women are usually required to be on bed rest, causing insurance companies and employers large losses. Furthermore, in mandated states, infertility treatments are more successful and less risky for the mother and child. Without the assistance of insurance to pay for treatments ranging from medications to IVF, many people will never experience the joy of pregnancy, childbirth, or watching their child grow. Current legislation deems pregnancy and childbirth as "unnecessary" and "optional". Without children, there is no future and by denying infertility treatment, you are robbing millions of people from a future full of laughter, happiness, and potential.

If only my insurance company would have covered 1-2 tries of IVF. They would have spent far less than what they have spent covering my 4 miscarriages, plus other treatment.

I, as well as others who've already commented, support this petition. People who are unfortunate to have children without infertility assistance should be able to have some type of insurance that can help them financially to fulfill their dreams of becoming parents. I am one of many who are unfortunate and am financially unable to procedure with my hopes and dreams of becoming a mother. My insurance covers a mere $1,000 maximum/lifetime. The cost of one IVF treatment without insurance is just unattainable.
