Rape and sexual abuse are traumatic enough without adding in the lack of knowledge from many law enforcement professionals. Having an understanding and sympathetic outlook can be a tremendous help to those who've been hurt. I agree more needs to be done to protect and serve!
I was raped a year and a half ago. I chose not to prosecute because it was my word against my rapist's word. He and I had a consentual relationship before and it would be difficult to prove that it wasn't consentual this time. I was also told that my sexual history would be a part of the trial. I cannot understand that. No one is questioned about their past when they are victims of any other crime. The US needs to make it a law that a victim's sexual history cannot be used in his or her trial.
Please end the violence. There need to be trained individuals specifically to help victims of rape and domestic violence. Please help the victims of these crimes.

Rape is a terrible crime that needs to be stopped. It is not the victim's fault, I hope eventually the system will change and there will be no shame in getting help. Did you know that the typical maximum punishment for incestual rape, is community service and counseling. That is disgusting.I was a victim of incestual rape at 9 yrs old, I am now a survivor of incest and rape, and the system really needs major changes.
I not only think this is a great idea, I would be first in line to be trained to help the victims, officers an who ever else needed it to get this awareness out and find a solution to this problem.
I have read that only 2% of accused rapists are convicted of anything. Our justice system needs some serious work. A good place to research is the groliers online encyclopedia- under rape.
i continue to keep my head above water since i was assaulted. everyday is a struggle. more people need to be aware of how traumatizing this really is to a human mind and soul.
I am a survivor of incest, multiple rape, including spousal rape, date rape and stranger rape. At 15 was my first rape by someone in my school, this was back in 1970, he got the 3 days he spent in jail till arraignment as his sentence, the others were not told to anyone, because I got blamed by everyone for the rape, their reaction in a way was far worse than the rape, the others were more devasting because of the men were ones I trusted. It has made my life horrible, next month will be 35 years since my first rape, and I have been in counselling for about 6 years now, I pushed it all away it was too hard to deal with at the time, I am DID; and I whole heartedly believe there should be education of sexual abuse and domestic violence and that the police are too busy to do that and we do need "lay" people who can help out, who understand the needs and the fears of survivors to help out in prevention, intervention and as victim advocates. This has gone on too long in our country, and it needs to stop. The violence has to end. There can be no healthy child if the child is being abused (teen). Since President Bush campaigned on family values, to me this is a family values issue and it can no longer be kept secret, we need to have the silence broken so we can have the people who need it get help, so it can be prevented, so we can have healthy families.
I was molested throughout my childhood and raped at the age of 19 last yr. nothing happened to either of the men who did this. survivors need help and if we cant turn to the law...where can we turn. please help us fight!
I think that this petition is a great idea:) Victims of domestic and sexual assault very often have troubles in getting back to normal life:( and such units would be a great help to them.
Too many have died,
many more will - it is our right as humans to stand up for ourselves and others who are being mistreated - too often the people defending you are miseducated - HELP EDUCATED SIGN THE PETITION
