Though I am sure he had full knowledge of what he was doing and Singapore is an independent nation with its own laws and sovereignties, I'm here petitioning for the Singaporean government to act in faith and compassion - in the light that Van Tuong Nguyen has shown just remorse and such mistakes were the result of an immature man, trying though incorrectly, to solve a brother's mistake. Mercy, not justice.
Please save this young man from a frightening and cruel death which no one deserves to be subjected to. A government taking a citizens life is morally abhorrent, and inconsistent with international law. Please show compassion in this matter. Please save this young mans life.
Anyone should be able to realise that this kid will have changed his mind by now. After what he's gone through, hes obviously not going to do it again. His death would be a punishment to his mother and would rehabilitate no-one. Those who sentence others to death should be sentenced themselves for they are the mass murderers. He should be allowed to live, he made a mistake. It is tough enough for their family, why make it worse?
The real purpetrators are the people who gave Nguyen Tuong Van the drugs.. catch them! Where there is co-operation there should be leniency. The death penalty has been abolished in South Africa where I live.
I think Singapore is ranked at exact same position as China's when it comes to human right issues, although they may think themselves as a modern and westernized nation simply because they are wealthy and spaeking accented English.

I'm not condoning what this man has done, but the death penalty is too too too harsh and never just. please spare his life, he has made a foolish mistake, but it does not mean he should get killed for it.
The Death Penalty is wrong.Mr Nguyen Tuong Van needs be spared in view of his age 25. IThe Singapore Government with its unilateral action risks isolation and sanctions from the international community as it actions go against both the EU Charter of Human Rights as well as the UN Charter of Human Rights.
I believe that the Australian government should not stop fighting for the lives of individuals who are in danger of recieving the death penalty. It is unimportant as to thier guilt but is a matter of human rights. We do not support the death penalty in this country and we should fight this disgusting practice where ever it occurs. i feel that Alexander Downer is inaffective in his role.
I urge you not to execute this man. Hanging someone is vicious and barbaric. What does it achieve? How could anyone respect a country which could do that?
If Singapore prides itself on being a cultured enlightened nation then don't sink to medievil levels with your obscene government sanctioned murder.Hypocrites really. All Nations on this Planet will eventually abolish capital punishment. They will discover the true causes of crime and begin to treat the cause not the symptom.
Although the crime is indeed wrong! people/humans/children/hu sbands and wives do make mistakes. However I don't believe death is the right way to endure that mistake.
Van doesn't deserve the death penalty - ours is not to judge - we have all made mistakes and the only reason we're not in prison is because 'we' were never caught - Van, I will pray for you and God will intervene if it be His will.

More work needs to be done in curbing the drug trade rather than executing the hapless participants who fall into it to make a quick buck.
More work also needs to be done in overthrowing corrupt officials who participate in the drug trade, protecting the big guns who make considerable profits from it. Execution is an inhumane punishment to any crime.
To the Singapore Authorities - Please spare the life of Mr Van allow him to live and to educate others against ever commiting the same crime that he foolishly committed, death will not teach, it would be overzealous and wrong to punish this young australian by death.
In this World filled with 'wrongs', we have an opportunity to change a 'wrong' to a 'right'.
Let Van live so he could warn others about the mistakes he has made...
A crime is a crime and the law is the law. This is the legal code are commanded to live by. It is not a negotiable issue if you take the law into your own hands and commit a crime for which there is a legislated punishment. Legislation is aimed at maintaining a "civilised" society.
My view is that the punishment should fit the crime.
Capital punishment for drug possession, trafficking and smuggling is completely ludicrous when you look at paedophiles, rapists and murderers who commit the most horrific crimes on their fellow man and are not only allowed to live but are released back into society after a year or 2 in jail.
Consider this people:
DOES THE PUNISHMENT FIT THE CRIME?
Think hard about it.
We can save and heal our children from drugs but we can never heal them or bring them back from death after paedophilia, rape and murder. These are the crimes that deserve the death penalty, not people who are caught with drugs!
Van's punishment DOES NOT fit the crime.
Asia needs to clean up its own act. Why is Asia the biggest drug producing nation?
If the Asian Government spent more time eradicating the massive drug production in its nation, there wouldn’t be any drugs to smuggle!
Isn't prevention better than punishment?
Van DOES NOT deserve the death penalty for his crime.
