Granted Nguyen has made a mistake, one he has already admitted to and helped the authorities with their enquiries. This sort of gesture should warrant some sort of leniency at the very least clemency. This sort of “barbaric” singled minded judicial system would be better left in the sands of time. I truly feel sorry for this guy; he was the mule for a bigger organisation which as per usual goes free. Mate I’m praying that “these” people grow some and do the right thing
The penalty of death is far too harsh - it does not fit the crime. A good ruler, in his wisdom, can use his power to grant clemency & save life &, through this, unite us all as beneficiaries of his outstanding concern for all humanity.
Nguyen Tuong Van does not deserve to die for what he has done. Please save Nguyen Tuong Van from the death penalty and allow his prison sentence to be served in Australia.
I have just written a card for my friend's newborn baby...now I am pleading for the life of someone else's child. As a mother myself I believe that noone has the right to end another's life. Nguyen can do more good for our world alive. Please give him that chance.
This is sad, society still doesn't do the right thing. Our world has been corrupted by laws and strict consequences that are given to people that usually go against the law for helping others. I see this as cruel and wrong, for every life is precious, and hanging is inhumane. I think humans will go even lower with other issues like this, and many others.
I cannot sleep everyday that I know he will die.I have cried over this he deserves to live,I will carry this terrible waste of a human life to my own grave.I pray to god everyday for you van,god bless you and your family, may angels carry you through to and justice be served for this.Stella.
Pls Don't let this evil barbaric murder go ahead. The Punishment way outstrips the crime. The life of an Australian Citizen is at stake here. I earnestly entreat the reader of this petition to do their uttmost and then some, to help Save Mr Van from the Gallows.
Everybody makes mistakes, and no one is perfect. Who is the Singaporean gov think they are? They are not God. To hang someone is barbaric, cruel and inhumane. If they do this, their future generation will be cursed for years to come. Karma is something that is real. If they go ahead with this, they will suffer as much as Van and his family and friends are suffering.
Van is very young, and he has learnt his lesson. Why are they using him as a scapegoat? He was naive and young, but now he has grown spiritually as a man.
Singapore is very hypocritical. It does big business with Burma, and this country is known as having the highest heroin traffic in the world. To kill a small player in the big game is unjust and unfair.
Even the Pope has granted Van clemency. This proves that forgiveness is possible.
Why is the Singaporean government so backward, yet they try to show the world that they are modern and cosmopolitan. Even if the leaders of the countries of the world don't boycott Singapore, the public/communities will. This will NOT go unnoticed.
The world is watching Singapore. There is sadness in everyone's eyes and hearts. We are all bleeding for Van to be given another chance. He is too young, and he is not a drug user. He can be rehabilitated to help others to prevent future situations like this. He can be an inspiration to people all over the world.
I hope Van knows that even though he may be lonely in Changi Prison, he is not alone. The world is holding his hand, and praying that he will be set free.
We should be looking at the whole picture - act accordingly. Laws are made to protect us - the only person here who needs protection & also better education is the victem - Van Tuong Nguyen. Q. Who is to blame when a young man thinks he can smuggle drugs to help a loved one? A. Society.
Van's life should be spared for the following reasons:
1. He's not a repeated offender.
2. He has made a serious mistake. However, he should be given an opportunity to change.
3. He did not smuggle drug into Singapore.
I understand that this is intended to send a message to the world. Sadly, the message says less about drug smuggling than it does about Singapore's lack of copmpassion. This is humans dealing with humans and does not reflect well on your country. Please commute this sentence.
a young man who tried to get away with bringing some drugs home with him-yes it is not the best way to make some money, but no, it is NEVER worth him being sentenced to death. This kid is younger than me, and I can ASSURE anyone, he is crying every night when he thinks about this serious mistake.
I abhor drug use and those who deal - but I do feel very strongly for Nguyen Tuong Van's situation and hope people around the world will help his case.
What has this world come too, I only see the Govt of Singapore to be murders themselves.
How can anyone think to hang or take a life for a crime of drugs, totally insane to see this is going to take place and end a life or a caring being with so much to offer?
Where are the leaders of the world when you need them and who is this being we call John Howard the PM of our Australia, what a pussy and a dictator he has turned out to be, especially since he sided with bush, do something serious John boy and stop treating the people of Australia like idiots, they voted you in or have you forgot.
Give this man his life back no matter at what cost, your only damming his family, not just him.
Where are the people in Australia when you need them, get up you gutless selfish wonders.
Lets stop this man hanging from this senseless act, hanging is for murders not drugs and if I had my say, taking a life for a crime would be stopped, no human should have the power to take the highest order to play a god like figure.
I can never understand how we have these highly educated people in power acting for the voters, we are the Govt, we vote them in and they work for us, listen to the people of Australia.
Perth Australia
Its inconceivable that Nguyen Tuong Van will ever traffic drugs again. The death penalty is not an effective deterrent. What earthly good will it do killing him. Retaining this barbaric practice only demeans you as a people and country. Please spare his life.
Peter Manning
I am pleading with God to take action to save Van's life. Only God can really grant clemency and move mountains. I will do anything, fast pray, and hope that a miracle can save dear Van
Please save Nguyen Tuong Van's life.By killing him Singapore government also destroy his family. He is not a professional drug courier. Please....... he is only 25, my heart hurts as I'm thinking of him and his family, especially his mum.
I feel as thoughI have got to know this young man and feel inspired by what I have read about him. My family and many friends feel the same way. Please grant a stay of execution for our fellow countryman. We will salute you for such a brave and compassionate deed.
Killing a person under a state law is a disguised barbarian act. There is plenty of other civilized punishment forms. Think about the sufferings that his family/friends will have to cope with for the rest of their life. This is disgusting.
i just want to say im appalled that in 2005 planned, legal execution by hanging still takes place.this poor soul.i feel so sorry for him and his family.
Nguyen Tuong Van assisted the authorities, including the Australian Federal Police in their investigations.
There are provisions of the Singapore Constitution that make specific reference and provide for clemency to those who assist the authorities with information which can be used to prosecute others.
No one, but no one has the right to take another's life. Will the law makers hang this young man, will those who handed down the sentence, hang him? No, they will pay someone else to commit murder. How barbaric is that?
Please save this young man's life! You may be surprised at the extent of the anger in Australia. Beware Optus, Singapore Airlines, TRU and all other Singaporean companies operating in Australia.
I totally disgree to the idea of death penalty. I think death penalty is really outdated in this 22nd century. To Singapore Government, please update your legal system and consider humanity. To my dear friend Van, I always love you and I SUPPORT you!!
I pray the president of Singapore will show clemancy to Van. There is none of us in this world who have not made a mistake, we must all be given an opportunity to learn from our mistake not to be put to death. I hope and pray that compassion will prevail and that Van's mother and brother will not have to bear this unbearable fate along with him for a single mistake. May the blessing of the Budda, Dhamma and the Sangha always be with Van and his family.
