This is rediculous and cruel.I recently visited the old melbourne gaol and so many took pity on the way people were convicted and kept in such poor conditions and the way there were executed...and here in modern times we have these things still happening. I am sure that Howard The Coward could do something but alas he lives up to his name..has it been his son then I bet he wouldnt be playing ignorance right now.Why take the life of a young man like this?Set him free and let him help rehabilitate or help kids that are thinking of making the same mistake he did...if he stops one person from trafficking then isnt it all worth it? Is Choking the life out of this kid going to help? No..all that is being done is committing a murder..so there for..the people involved in this decision should have to answer to their crime as well...Why are we allowing fellow human beings to be treated like this? Why is it still happening? Does anyone care? This kid made a mistake..and we only have society to blame for that...not him.Stop this inhumane treatment and stop the murdering. One day someone has to answer for all the murders they have commited by giving out death sentences..and I hope they suffer for all enternity for whatever small part they play in this act.
I appeal against the death penalty,
and request that the Australian Government do everything in its power to have his sentence commuted to a lessor one and in doing so, support Van's appeal for clemency
As co-signatories to many international agreements and conventions on human rights, and in the spirit of the history of respect and cooperation that exists between our two nations, I call on the Prime Minister of Singapore, Loong Hsien Lee, to reconsider clemency in the case of Nguyen Tuong Van. He meets all the criteria for such consideration, and Singapore's standing in the international community requires that such action is taken
The Singaporean Govt. message of zero tolerance of drug trafficing has reached the world. This is a special case, Nguyen was desperate and naieve in his actions, ready to lay down his life for his twin. A 10 year sentence, minus three years, would be the most humane solution. His supplier is the one that needs hanging.
Van's life should be spared. What about rehabilitation? Yes it is undeniable that he has made a mistake, broken the law, though he definately deserves a second chance.
I am appalled that the Australian government are going to sit back and let this man be murdered by the Singapore govt. When a Fatwa was raised against Salman Rushdie effectively a death sentence the British government reacted in a firm and clear voice. John Howard should strenuously argue for mr Nguyen's life to be spared. Would they react in this way if he was white blonde and female ?
Read thre court transcript and then tell me how hanging this man will help anyone but the self esteem of the court imposing this action.Boycott Singapore.BOYCOTT SINGAPORE AS A SOCISL NEIGHBOUR.So this does not happen to one of our own again. It doesnt seem an issue of guilt,I think even Singapore knows that.PLease help.
It is the mothers situation that I identify with and can not condone such cruely upon an inicent women.I also do not feel this man deserves this punishment considering the full facts.I will never fly Singapore and intend to make a personal boyctt Singapore as a country to visit or admire. To whomever responsible for Nguyen Tuong Van death penalty, please re-consider your decision. Life is so precious and God will be our final judges. Forgiving open up new road for your family, and son, daughter. You won't lost anything if you forgive this young 25 years old man. He does made a very naive decision, but please forgive him. We all human, when the "day of judgement" comes we all would be judge, therefore no body is perfect. I used to hear your country was very clean, and I decided to visited there someday, but since you are very strict, I look at your country from different point of view now. Even though he violated your law, but does he deserved to die? God bless you, whomever reading this, and please grant you a gift, that you can love and forgive those whom had wrong you. Including me, we must learn to forgive, that's what made we strong and virtue. God bless this world. Even one life like Nguyen Tuong Van does mean a lot to God, and does mean lot to his family. Please forgive if you can!!!! "God please grant us the strength to forgive. Mary Mother of Jesus, please pray for Nguyen Tuong Van"
FREE THIS MAN!!! SOME PEOPLE SERVE LESS A SENTANCE FOR BIGGER CRIMES AND NOT EVEN DEATH PENALTY FOR MURDER. MY THOUGHTS ARE WITH VAN AND HIS FAMILY,I WILL PRAY FOR YOU ALL. XXX
Singapore will become the social outcast in 2005.How disgusting is drug smuggling, even more disgusting is Country Sanctioned Murder.May the ministers responsible sleep well at night with this young mans blood on their hands.God Help Singapore and bring about a dramatic social change in their isolationist mentality.
Nguyen Tuong Van did not deserve to die since his crime was committed for his brother's sake not himself. I sincerely ask the government of Singapore to lessen his sentence.
I don't believe in Capital Punishment..and certainly not hanging. This is a sad case as he was doing it for his twin brother..and he doesn't even look to be showing remove (his twin)and not only his brother, but his twin is facing the Death penalty right in the face...
I don't think he should get off, but surely hanging or any form of capital punishment is too harsh for the crime...
Everyone made a mistake and this mistake is not deserve to die. I would like to ask Singapore Government to give him a chance. According to the law of Singapore, it is wrongful to smuggle heroin. I think Van did not know so just forgive him and let him has a chance to make good.
Thank you
Everyone makes the mistakes. Noboby is perfect even Saints made mistakes in their lives. He doesn't deserve hanging. Put yourself in his family's situation, how would the mom and twin brother feel. They will be so painful for the rest of their lives. Australia and Singapore governments, please try to do anything as possible to save Van's life.
The death penalty is to harsh for a young man like Nguyen, capital punishment is wrong and Nguyen should be set free, his crimes do not warrant such a sentence. God only forgive those who forgive others.
To those people who have signed this petition not to support Van, but to support the decision by the Singaporean Government, should ask themselves "would you support the decision if it was your son or daughter?" Frankly, I am just disgusted with the way you people think. Yes it is wrong trafficking drugs, but he does not deserve to die for it. For god’s sake, it is his first criminal offence and sadly may be his last! If you people had bothered to read the court documents, when Van was caught at the airport he didn't try to deny anything..he willingly cooperated with the Singaporean authorities and admitted to his crime when asked because he was so scared!! Otherwise he wouldn't have said anything until a representative from the Australian High Commission was there with him to advise him of the course of action he should take. But he obviously didn't know his rights or wasn't told of his rights by the Singaporean authorities. The poor fellow just didn't know what to do so simply trusted the Singaporean authorities! It is in his nature to be honest and obviously he was very naïve at the time too. Doesn’t that tell you something about the poor bloke? Anyway, again he has admitted to his crime and he has been assisting the Australian Federal Police with investigations therefore, he deserves another chance!!! He doesn't deserve to die...Please save Van's life.
I urge you to do all possible to spare Van's life!
The death penalty will not make things right and
won't serve anyone anything good!
We are all humans and we all do make mistakes
but we are able to exercise compassion and
forgiveness we we should use these outstanding and
noble human qualities whenever possible.
Death penalty is unethical because killing, for whatever
reason is WRONG! and therefore a useless tool in
order to achieve justice!
Saving van's life also means to spare his mother, brother
and friends from livelong suffering in a pain of loss and
guilt. These people are innocent and it is unjust to ruin
their lifes too.
My thought and heartfelt prayers for Van, his family and
friends! Stay strong!
My hopes and prayers to all those that can change the
outcome for this very sad case to the better.

What gets me is the people that say 'he knew what he was getting in to so he has to face the punishment' This is a popular belief in Australia by ignorant people that hold us back! No execution!
All drugs dealers should be executed like this man. I support Judge Kan Ting Chui all the way. You all think of his mom, how about the mom, wife and children of those people who will use his drugs? They will suffer thousands time more than his mom. He is derseved.
Please spare his life. Please think about his mother, who have to live with this pain for the rest of her life. God only forgive those who forgive others.
The death penalty is to harsh for a young man like Nguyen, capital punishment is wrong and Nguyen should be set free, his crimes do not warrant such a sentence.
A more constructive solution might be to have Van perform work that will assist in the recovery of drug abuse victims in Singapore. In that way he could do something positive for Singapore.
Killing him does nothing for anyone.
