If Singapore proceed with the execution, there'll be severe retribution. I have no respect for the Singaporean government or their people. They are vicious, animal with no sense of humanity. Local law is never really clear to a visitor and even if it is, capital punishment is immoral and inhumane. You can't kill people out of their own free will. To this end, I ask of you to stop and extradite the fellow back to Australia to try him within their own law.

When I was a child growing up in Asia, around the age of 8, I once caught a beautiful white dove & put it in a cage. Much later my mother, who had had enough of the daily droppings, went out and bought Chinese herbs intending to make a soup out of the jailed bird. Upon her return, and on the spur of the moment, I opened the cage and with both hands threw the dove into the air. Traumatised and disoriented, it perched on a tamarind tree, cocked its head, seeming to have forgotten how to fly. Mother's approaching foot steps forced me to clap my hands and at that crucial moment the dove took off, flying high into the distance. Piqued, enraged by my disobedience and my challenge to her authority, lashes of the cane rained on my open hands, arms, body and legs. It was weeks before they healed and I could sit down again. My heart sang out in joy though, as I was not part of the killing. Please Singapore Government, there is still time to spare Mr Nguyen Toung Van's life. Carpe Diem.

It is real surprising that Australia has failed to get this kid extradited back to Australia for trial. I will sign the petition for this kid. I feel real sorry for this dumb kid, just 24 years of age getting into real mess like this. He doesn't deserve to die. Looks like Singapore wants to make this case as a "model example" to others ... at expense of this poor Vietnamese kid. They don't have to execute him, just to make "model example" --- there are many other ways to accomplish that their goal without sacrificing a life. I would have an extremely bad image of Singapore, should Mr. Van Nguyen is executed. I would get every opportunity to call for complete boycott of Singaporean goods and services altogether. If you believe in Justice and Freedom, Please free this Man right now, and expedite him to Australia for trial. Thank you. Regards, Fred Nguyen

How many times that I looked back and thought that what stupid mistakes I had made growing up. Either it was a sense of invincible or just pure stupidity, I had made some unthinkable decisions that I soon regretted. If someone caught a bird in a cage for a few days and let him out of it. How happy the bird would fly out and be scared the rest of his life. Mr Nguyen's 1-time mistake is wrong by all accounts, but the penalty for first time offender is too heavy for him given all circumstances associated with it. As human beings, we have plenty of compassions and the ablities to distinguish different situations that may have required different treatments. I'm asking to give him a lighter sentence and preserve his life so that when he gets out he knows how invaluable freedom and life by itself is. Yours sincerely, Tri.

he does not deserve death penalty. This is a serious crime but when i contemplate about it, i strongly disagree with the jury. Furthermore, he do this because of his brother. It's absolutely wrong but just think about it, maybe his brother and him can't think of another solution and need to be sympathy. He is so young to be dead.

The drug trafficking is a horrible crime. It destroys people's life and it affects the security of our societies. However, in this case, I would respect ask Singapore Government to drop the death penalty and gives Mr. Nguyen a chance to repay for his mistake. I strongly believe that if he is alive, he will definitely understand how value of the other people's life is. Therefore, he will realize that what he had done is really bad. Thus, he will be punished himself for his entire life. Finally, I believe that this is the heaviest punishment he will carry.
#2922

Hedy Manoch said 11/29/05, 6:35 pm (verified)
This is not right. The world nowadays should know much better when to sentence someone to death, including Singapore! If he took someome's life, only then it would be right, but not for this. Punish him but don't take his life. Please reconsider this!
#2921

Kim Tran said 11/29/05, 6:24 pm (verified)
Please spare this young man's life and give him a chance to repent. No doubt he committed a serious crime, but hanging him is way too cruel. There must be a more appropriate punishment than killing. The Singaporean goverment, please listen to cryings and appeals around the world to reconsider your decision on the fate of this young man' life.

Executing another young life? There are 400 executions in Singapore since 1991 and drug trafficking is still part of crime scene in Singapore. When you decided to kill people that means you are running options to deal with this people/matter. Can the rest world assume that this is the case with Singapore's justice?

hmm, first of all, he carry heroin is not a right way, he should have a penalty, but not a death penalty. Well law is a law; every country has its own laws. But with Van’s situation, he carried heroin because he wanted pay off all of his brothers’ debts. I beg the Singapore government should have another way of penalty for Van instead of a death penalty “hanging”.
