Requesting mercy to grant Clemency to Live to Van Tuong.
Death Penalty for "possession" is over too much specially when he helped to apprehend the main trafficker.
Your urgent consideration is requested URGENTLY.
Young people under the age of 25 cannot grasp the consequences of their actions as do those over the age of 25.This is because the frontal lobes of their brains are not yet fully developed. The result of this is that they take risks without proper foresight.Insurance companies understand this,so why are governments so far behind in their comprehension of the situation? One idea would be to monitor any person under the age of 25 who travels overseas to ensure that they don't make foolish decisions as did Nguyen Tuong Van.We must take this fact into acount if we are not going to just keep on ending the lives of these young people. What he did had very serious consequences for the recipients of heroin, however killing Van is NOT the answer.
The death penalty is immoral and inhumane! Everyone makes mistakes, and yes heroin is a serious issue BUT Nguyen Tuong Van does NOT deserve the death penalty. His action was selfless and for that it should not cost him his life. Furthermore, how can a mothers plea go unoticed, has the government lost all senses of humanity. Lets hope that the rest of the nation comes to their senses and does something about it!
Please show your compassion and respect for human`life and spare this young man's life. Please also spare any further suffering for his loving family and friends.
Grant this man clemency because what he did is too little to put the death penalty on him. The death penalty doesnt even affect him once he is gone but it will continue to hurt his family and friends. It will be them not him who will have to live with this all their lives
i find with all things regarding this govenment you are not here for the people just your egos i hope if you let this man die it will haunt you forever
Capital Punishment is just wrong..
Please have the heart to save this man's life. One life may not seem a lot in comparison to everyone else, but a life is priceless.
Please reconsider the death penalty for the life of Nguyen. Hanging this man and taking his life would be sincerely inhuman and disgraceful to all people.
Have Mercy on this young Man who has a promising life in front of him. Forgive him for the mistake he committed. Please, show a level of compassion and I beg you let this young man have his life.
Please, please do not kill this young man. Give him the chance to live and the opportunity to learn from his mistake. To kill him would be a crime against humanity and those involved in this revolting and hideous punishment will have to face the Kammic consequences for many life times.
Please consider this to be a given opportunity for your government to
open their hearts and to make capital punishment a cruel and diplorable action of the past.
This young man has made a terrible mistake in breaking the law in
Singapore, but he does not deserve to die. Grant him life so that he may have the chance to repent and correct his mistakes.
Yep, the punishment is way out of proportion with the crime.
I live in singapore too, and I too am appalled by the sometimes-unforgiving nature of our society here for one-time mistakes.
The so-called "mistake" this fellow made was to help his brother clear his debt yet he's taking the rap. Where's the justice?
I dont agree with the death penalty in this case but the drugs he was bringing back could have killed and ruined other lives, i say some time in changi will be punishment enough, hanging him will only punish his family and they are inocent of any crime.
Quote from Venerable Sujato, Abbot of Santi Forest Monastery in Australia:
"Out of compassion for Van Tuong Nguyen, his family and friends; out of
compassion for the authorities in Singapore; and out of compassion for
those who, out of ignorance and moral blindness, support the inhuman
act of deliberately killing a fellow human being, I urge you to make
your voice heard to oppose this penalty."
To Her Magesty Queen Elizabeth of England,
I along with the rest of the public are now aware that Nguyen Tuong Van's mother has addressed a letter to you as a plea to help grant her son clemency.
I along with the rest of the supporters also urge you to please help this man.
His mistake was a foolish one made as a young boy in desperation but i am sure you along with the rest of us agree that one small mistake shouldn't cost him his life.
I pray you consider this man's life at stake here and intervene so that he can be granted clemency.
When a member of the public kills a man it is called murder.
When the government kills a man it is called an execution.
How can one action be defined as two completly different things?
Living in singapore for most of my life i have always respected the officials but one thing i never understood or accepted was the death penalty.
Yes, back in the days of the Aztecs people were sent to death for commiting a crime but it is now the 21st century. This should no longer be happening.
My reason for writing however is not to attack the government but rather to ask them to grant Mr Nguyen Tuong Van clemency as he does not deserve to die.
His mistake was only a small one made in desperation.
I again sincerely urge you to reconsider your decision and grant this man the clemency as i know that he is in a position where this is an option.
thank you.
To take another life is a terrible thing, so much worse than affecting people by carrying drugs Government policy should be to punish criminals. It should not have the right to kill them.
What you are doing is not justice it is an abhorrent abuse of power.
By executing someone you are playing God and no one should be doing that.
What this man has done was done in a desperate attempt to help his brother.
He made a mistake and yes he should be punished but not with the death penalty. That type of punishment is too harsh and too extreme.
He does not deserve the death penalty. what he deserves is time in prision, rehab and community service.
This is a quote from Shimon Peres
"Always look back with forgiveness. Always look ahead with hope. And when you look aside, do it with love. The highest degree of wisdom is moral consideration. There is nothing wiser in human life than moral choice. Forgive other people as much as you forgive yourself. Don't be impatient with the flaws of others because you have to remember you own"
Please this man is so young and has so much ahead of him. Please do not send this man away, please grant him clemency, PLEASE.
In the bible we are taught forgiveness, we are taught that:
Mark 11:25, 26
"But if you do not forgive, neither will your Father in heaven forgive your trespasses"
Eph. 4:31, 32
" And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you."
If you have a heart please think about what the Lord is teaching us in his book and reconsider your vile, abhorrent decision. It is inhumane and should not be happening
Grant this man clemency!
To John Howard and the Australian government don't tell us that you have done all you can because you havent - where there's a will there's a way!
This man has done little wrong. His records are clean he is a loyal friend and son and he has demonstrated integrity by co operating to the fullest with officials at all times.
We are all taught that violence is not the answer. To forgive and forget. That two wrongs don't make a right.
Stop what is happening and grant this man clemency!
Please grant Nguyen Tuong Van clemency.
This man does not deserve the death penalty. No one does.
Why is it that in school we are taught that two wrongs don't make a right and here in society this is exactly what the singapore government is doing?
The death penalty is inhumane and should be abolished.
Nguyen Tuong Van should serve time in prison rather than be executed.
John Howard should stop sitting on his ass and do something!
I beg you please grant this man clemency.
Parents teach their children from an early age that in life we make mistakes but the most important part of making mistakes is learning from them and knowing not to repeat them.
The death penalty however, totally contradicts what we are taught. Rather than setting a punishment and learning from our mistakes, the singaporean government is sending a message to young kids that mistakes are unacceptable. That mistakes cost you your life.
Is this the message you want to send across? I dont think so.
I for one do not agree with the decision to execute Nguyen Tuong Van. It is not justice. This man does not deserve it.
IT IS MERELY INHUMANE!
I strongly urge you your excellency and the sigapore government to reconsider your decision and grant Nguyen Tuong Van clemency.
To the family and friends of Nguyen Tuong Van stay strong, never give up hope and fight this with all you've got!
i feel very sad to hear of this tragic story... i pray every day that van can be set free or serve his sentence in Australia. No one should be hung !!! That is so unhumain
I' dont like the pervers so called "Law-Systems" (better: Death-Systems) therefore I sign this petition, wheather I'm believe, that the murderer-system of S'pore isn't very impressed of it.
SINGAPOREAN'S ARE SICK BUGGER'S ,
let the man serve he's sentence in jail for so many years .
The death penalty is a "cruel, inhuman and degrading punishment." Think Centre calls to remove the mandatory capital punishment for simple possession of drugs. The mandatory death sentence must be removed. The laws have to be changed to permit judicial discretion and fairness for drug cases.
LET HIM LIVE Nguyen Tuong Van
Hands stretch out from across the globe
To change the judgement that you bestowed
Upon Nguyen Tuong Van,whom yes committed a crime
His love blinded him to a fault,
He risked his own life, now the consequences of his actions, will take his life
Execution surely cannot be the answer
His love for his brother was the weakness, that has now led him to this Fate
To take his life would not be justice
The crime he committed was the love for his brother
Let him Live Let him Live
Give him back his destiny
And strip away what will be his silent darkest hours
Let him Live Let him Live
For harshness in these circumstances EXECUTION
Is not wisdom, but a Law of your land
Wisdom to allow him to remain breathing is the key
And the powerfullest teaching
He shall never forget
Then his mothers hands can hold his, not towards Death but towards Living
