nonoe deserves the right to take someones life and in a corrupt system like most asian countries that have the death penalty. we all need to unite as one and stop this barbarrick act
#635 JEN - YOU SHOULD REALLY CHECK YOUR SPELLING AFTER YOU WRITE SOMETHING. YOU ARE PATHETIC RACIST IN YOUR OWN RIGHT AND FOR ALL YOU OTHER PEOPLE WHO HAVE NEGATIVE COMMENTS, PLEASE KEEP IT TO YOURSELF BECAUSE NO-ONE WANTS TO HEAR IT. IF YOU DO NOT SUPPORT THE ISSUE, THEN THAT IS YOUR RIGHT BUT DO NOT MAKE RACIST COMMENTS LIKE WHAT #635 HAVE STATED. I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO ADD THAT ALTHOUGH VAN WAS IN THE WRONG, HE SHOULD BE GIVEN A LESS SEVERE PUNISHMENT BECAUSE THE ONLY PEOPLE WHO DESERVES TO DIE ARE THE ONES THAT TAKES ANOTHER LIFE. IT IS TRUE THAT YOU COULD SAY THAT JUNKIES WHO DIE FROM THIS DRUG IF IT HAD SUCCEEDED IS CONSIDERED TAKING ANOTHER'S LIFE BUT THAT IS A SEPERATE ISSUE. JUNKIES CHOOSE TO BEGIN TAKING THE DRUG NOT FORCED TOO. THE AUSTRALIAN GOVERNMENT COULD POSSIBLY IGNORE THIS PETITION, BUT WHAT IS THE HARM OF TRYING. PEOPLE LIKE #635 HAVE NO HEART AND SHOULD THINK BEFORE THEY TALK!
WE ARE LIVING IN THE 21ST CENTURY TODAY...PLEASE PLEASE SHOW YOUR MERCY TO THE WORLD THAT YOU (AND ALSO WE) ARE HAVING THE "SECOND THOUGHTS" FROM OUR COMPASSIONATE HEARTS. THIS IS THE ONE AND THE ONLY ONE remarkable DECISION IN OUR LIFE TIME... Please make our 20,000 HOPES come true.
OK, I agree heroin ruins families and kills people. But this was the first time, NGUYEN TUONG VAN did heroin smuggle and he didn’t give drugs to anyone before he got caught. So he DIDN’T kill anybody. Therefore, he deserves a second chance.
In general, capital punishment is for someone who DID murder
The consequences of being caught trafficking drugs is clear to all, even before arrival in Singapore. However, the death sentence is not a humane way to deal with such problems, a life sentence allows the opportunity for a him to work with those that are addicted to heroin and help to erdicate the dependence that many have which creates the demand for trafficking in the first place.
PLEASE SPARE NGUYENS LIFE !! It is heartbreaking to hear that a HUMAN life will be taken away so cruely.and INHUMANE ..Yes drug trafficking is a serious offence that should have consequences like jail, but not MURDER!!! PLEASE LET NGUYEN LIVE !!
No one deserves that kind of fate for a mistake, no matter how big it was. Please spare his life, as it can be seen from the acts of compassion he has shown in prison that he's got a good heart and one mistake shouldn't ruined his right to live.
We all deserve second chances because we all make mistakes large and small. The death penalty is too harsh especially for drugs, its not like he committed rape or murder which is inhuman.
Although he did bad stuff he should have realised that its his mother that suffers as far as taking this youngsters life. SINGAPORE HAS NONE. You didnt give him a life you didnt grow him for five years, its his mother who suffers the most.
I do not believe this man should die for 400 grams of heroin! A jail term for sure but he has made a terrible decision which a jail term would be sufficient,NOT the death penalty!!!
Please give Van a second chance, he's a good son, a good brother and a good citizen. He commited b'cos he just wanted to pay the dept of his brother, it's silly ofcourse, but it's forgiveable. I don't know him, but my heart is sank when I heard that he may be hung to death. Everybody deserves a second chance, please please give him a chance.
Everyone should be given a second chance, no-one in the world should allow this man to hang. Drugs are wrong but killing this man in this barbaric way will not accomplish anything, how can anyone forgive thereselves for taking someones life this way.
Australia Priminister or Minister, as a representative for Australians should speak out strongly to Singapore to stop Singapore from hanging Nguyen Tuong Van. As a priminister should protect his citizens.
As many other peoples, me and probably you believe that it is wrong, inhumane in this case , since :
- he was in transit to Australia. He was not trying to import drugs into Singapore. He didn’t intend and didn’t bring drug to harm Singapore peolple. The punishment does not fit the crime. There should be an international law here.
-Singapore has its own rules, but for foreigners, it should be different. There should be an international law here.
-There should be always a flexibility, depends on the situation when making a decision, especially it is concerning a human life. There are compelling, compassionate circumstances in this case to justify clemency. Considering that we are dealing with humans (and human nature) a more flexible system for punishment, one that proportionately fits the crime, as judged in its relative context would be more suitable and humane. If Singapore is so protective of its citizens, why isn't it negotiating talks with countries that produce the drugs and fund the governments there to crack down on the manufacturers? Van was a small-fry trafficker, but killing him ends the possibility of him testifying against those with more significant involvement in the drug in the future.
-I do agree that we're ought to obey the laws; however sometimes human beings do make mistakes in creating laws. That's why the authorities keep changing their laws over the years, and that's why certain countries abolish death penalty.
-I understand under Singapore's Constitution, clemency can be granted in rare circumstances and that Van Tuong Nguyen's case fits the criteria - I believe he has always shown remorse, confessed at the earliest opportunity and cooperated fully with the polices.
- Singalpore shoul
I have been to Singapore several times. Even though I fully support the global fight against drugs and related crime to prevent harm to our societies and children, the death sentence is abhorrent in general and it is cruel and absolutely inhuman. Especially in this case I fully support the appeal for clemency as Nguyen Tuong Van obviously does not have any crime history and acted under immense pressure and financial distress that threatened his family. To my opinion he diserves to get a second chance and serves society much more by cooperating in finding and prosecuing the people that have hired him. His death is no satisfaction to anybody but the people behind the scene, helping the to remain undiscovered.
PLEASE RECONSIDER AND CHANGE TO IMPRISONMENT
I think drug trafficking is a serious offence that should be dealt with harsh punishment, but NOT DEATH! Everyone deserves a 2nd chance. If he were a repeat offender than, I wouldn't sign this petition. Imagine the convicetd was your child. Who really pays the price for the punishment? PLEASE, I'm sure there are many other alternatives ie: Caning, life in prison, but death is just IMMORAL! The death penalty is suited to PEOPLE WHO CAUSE DEATH. Ending this YOUNG man's life will serve no purpose, in the world of drugs. PLEASE!
I have 2 sons in prison in England and there but for the grace of god could any of us be. Although my sons are in prison for a short time and for petty crimes in the most they are treated well and with respect. Everyone deserves a second chance and everyone can make a mistake. Please god let this decision be overturned from a mother x
I understand the seriousness of the crime Van Tuong Nguyen has committed and I do believe Van Tuong Nguyen and many others like himself should be punished for their actions.
However, I consider the death penalty to be the most cruel and inhumane punishment (regardless of the case) and it is a servere abuse of the basic human right to life.
Van Tuong Nguyen is a young man with no prior criminal convictions to his name. I believe he is a bighearted young man, in desperate need to help his family and made an error in judgment in doing so. Whilst I would still like to see this young man pay a price for his inexcusable action, I certainly would not like to see a him lose his life for this foolish mistake. Which I’m sure he has certainly learned from.
Please spare the life of this man. His no big-time Drug lord. His simply the messenger, the small fish in the sea trying to survive...
I don't think that it is right to kill or hang someone and take their life IF they was just smuggling drugs, I didn't say it was right to smuggle drugs, but it isn't like he killed another person or injured another person. SO, I think you guys need to reconsider about the death penalty for Van. If anything as far as questions please email me back or call me at 714-369-0958.
I think Singapore court should agree with his appeal. He is not the person who really wanna bring Heroin to Australia.he just wanna help his twin brother...
Although I believe that Van Tuong Nguyen deserves to be punished, the application of the death penalty should and never will be the answer. Everyone should be given a second chance and the value of a human life is precious. The death penalty is both inhumane and degrading and does not offer an effective solution to the drug problem in Singapore.
