Billboards Distract–Oppose Westtown's C2 Zoning
Published August 24, 2011
Westtown Township, PA should reinstate the C-1 zoning ordiance that have been in place for many years and revoke the recently adopted C-2 zoning and authorization of an oversized electronic billboard to be constructed at 1018 Wilmington Pike.

In August 2011, Westtown Township, PA adopted a settlement agreement that will allow a massive 200 square foot electronic sign, flashing messages every 7 seconds, to be placed on a section of Route 202 where there are so many accidents its known as the murderous mile.

In the spring of 2011, in reaction to the threat of a lawsuit from Chester County Outdoor, Ltd, the Township changed the zoning ordinance for a number of Wilmington Pike properties from a C-1 ordance that allowed for 40 ft billboards to a C-2 ordinance that authorizes placement of oversized electronic message billboards.

I oppose the C-2 zoning ordinance and proposed electronic billboard because they:
1) Increase the risk of automobile accidents on an already deadly stretch of road.
2) Destroy the character of Westtown Township, a place known for its aesthetic country charm.
3) Decrease the value of nearby homes and communities, lowering Westtown’s tax revenue.
