American consumers' have reached the boiling point with outrageously exorbitant "insufficient funds" fees. These insufficient funds are accrued through use of debit/credit purchases made by consumers directly through banks. As a result of these fees, consumer spending power is destroyed and leaves many working poor and financially struggling families in financial crises.

Allow me to give you a real life example. I made $20 in purchases recently, and when the bank system updated, I was charged $128 for "only" making $20 in purchases! This unjust purchase/fee ratio is an unnecessary financial burden.

I propose that all banks, within reasonable time, rightfully implement or modify the system so that when a merchant tries to debit a insufficient consumer's account, the transaction is "simply" declined. The transaction should not go through if the system sees that it will leave a consumer's account in a insufficient financial state. This, in turn, will ensure that consumers do not make financially unsound purchases.

Finally, by initiating this proposal, we will help to reduce the number of consumer delinquent bank accounts. By treating consumers fairly, you can join with them in establishing a longstanding business relationship, so that years from now, these same consumers will continue doing business with your bank while avoiding delinquent bank account scenarios because of financially damaging and unjust fees.

I support this petition. They charged me over 260 in overdraft fees because of a $20 charge that i disputed. I contacted the bank and they only refunded the initial $35 overdraft fee but did not refund all the subsequent fees that resulted from the negatrive balance from the first OD fee..

I support this petition. Enough! The banks do not pay interest rates on savings account worth a damn, but their fee income is (od charges, etc) are strong arm tactics that rob the public of their hard earned money. The CEOs and other high ranking bank officials have fat pockets while the poor working class bleeds dry. What are we going to do about it? What is the President going to do about it? Elect Michael Moore for President!

I support this petition. At least try to control it. It is highway robbery. I could see at least lowering it greatly. At least down to $10-$20 and can only have one NSF charge a day rather than $35 for each one. Sad to overdraft for 15 cents then be charged $300. Obviously if you overdraft you are hurting and can\'t take the massive fees applied.
