I support this petition 100%! I have played this game for a year. You won't believe how this game affected me. I played casually for a few days and once i got to 60 i started raiding. This is when things went wrong for me. I was brainwashed. I spent 8+ hours a day playing this game, i didnt give a shit about real life. The only thing that gave me interest was getting epics. It got to the point where i'd skip going to Alton towers with my friends, going on holiday to Spain and dating girls. For months i played this game endlessly. One day my mum came in my room to take out the washing. She asked if i wanted to go to the beach with her. I said no im busy and she burst into tears crying. Then i realised what this game was doing to me and i stopped. The day i stopped was the day my life came back. But the guild i was in had players that played almost 24/7 only getting a few hours sleep. I say to myself why, why should we be allowed to play in a virtual world if it's gonna most likely tear you apart from the real world. I SAY WE PUT A STOP TO IT NOW! TODAY WORLD OF WARCRAFT AND IN A HUNDRED YEARS WE COULD ALL BE PLUGGED IN ONE VIRTUAL WORLD LIKE THE MATRIX, WHERE WE ALL MIGHT AS WELL BE DEAD! I SAY NO, WE PUT AN END TO THIS SILENT KILLER, IT WILL TEAR YOUR LIFE APART!
I get the feeling I’m losing a friend to WoW too. We used to play Neverwinter Nights every Friday night until he started playing WoW. He got me to try the free 10-day trial of WoW insisting it was really good and I couldn’t understand what was so good about it. I played 7 days of it and well… I got bored shitless. He gave me £10 to buy the game because it comes with 1 month’s free play but after the first 7 days of the free trial I got wet feet. I did not like the idea of having to play that crap for a whole month. I just wanted to get back to my other games (heck his girlfriend owed exactly £10 anyway so I don’t feel guilty). Personally I think Neverwinter Nights 1 and 2 and Elder scrolls IV: Oblivion are far superior in game play to WoW and even better you don’t have to pay subscription and they don’t take your life away (note possible cure to desperate spouses). To me WoW is RPG for babies. It’s been broken down so that simpletons understand it easier so it pulls more of the market in. There is so little choice when it comes to races, classes, feats, statistics, skills and professions e.t.c. The levelling up in WoW is done for you and some of the detail isn’t even included in the game at all when you level up leaving very little personalization/customisa tion of your character. Extra professions have to be bought via NPC trainers and even some skills/spells have to be acquired the same way after you level up. It’s like you level up and then you have to pay for the extra gubbins to make it worth while!
The quests seem to be very cliché and repetitive and as a result very boring to me. Most quests I did were about killing aggressive and none-aggressive animals and returning their giblets to an NPC. Others involved ruining the evil plots of an organisation called the Adventure Co. but mainly involved killing them for bounties.
The whole place seemed like one big kiddie activity centre and a glorified MSN more than a fun game, at least f

WoW, although simply a fun little diversion for some people, is far too commonly taking over peoples lives - so many friends have fallen to the scourge which is WoW, now they never come out, do anything, talk about anything, or even play other games. It's all WoW WoW WoW. If nothing else WoW; and several other MMOs, should get some sort of warning placed on them, or have some sort of usage limitation placed on them by the government - just like *gasp* the Chinese government have the sense to do! Sure a 600 signature petition may not make this or anything happen, but maybe it'll indicate the problems of WoW to someone, and prevent them from becoming like the huge proportion of addicted WoW players.

I love that there is a stereotype of the typical WoW player. They must be fat, anti-social, mentally deluded and have a major lack of future prospects. I will say that there is a minority that are exactly like this but for others, this could be no further from the truth. WoW is an MMORPG (Massive Multi Player Online Role Playing Game) and due to that, there is a great deal of addiction (As with most good MMO's). But at the end of the day, This is a passtime. I had actually did some work into the link between video games and violence and as it stands, people have these tendencies within themselves already. WoW just happens to be a way of passing the blame. The government has done it with music, comic books, Grand Theft Auto and now they are moving onto games like WoW. Please find something descent to petition against.
