myself and many anglers like me go to alderney for a weeks bass fishing each year on charter boats out of the south coast of england taking only the small amount of fish that we require to eat ourselves and returning many more than we keep. i believe that this industry is crucial to an economy such as alderney's and if the bass go unfortunatly so will the anglers and the vital revenue that they provide the channel islands. Please save our bass for future generations to enjoy. tyler roberts
If we do nothing now then the stocks in ten years time wil be destroyed, these are the breeding fish that are being taken, let's save them while we still can!!
please please protect our species.
we must give our fish stocks time to recuperate. A closed season is vital and i would refuse to visit an area with no protective measures.
More like this is needed as we know. just the rest of the ignorant population need to be educated on the matter otherwise when all the bass and cod go what will be next. something as people still belive there are plenty of fish in the sea
Agree with the proposal for a close season to protect stocks - this issue would definitely be in my mind were I to consider booking a holiday to Guernsey
Hello,
Not only the bass is threatened by this kind fishing. When we left our harbour last wednesday we saw the first nets for sole (also spawning this time of year) just on the outside of the heads, the last nets (one after another) we encountered 13 miles later...
For the moment we have a 15kg restriction on cod fishing (sportfishing) in Belgium because we are the reason that the sea is getting empty you know...
Maybe sole and bass are gone be the next species on the list.
Targetted fishing on tightly shoaled pre and spawning bass is madness and unsustainable. This activity can only lead to a serious decline in a premier sporting fish and as well as a biological disaster would seriously impact the potential for angling related tourism in Guernsey. A close season would be an effective control and should be introduced as soon as possible.
Im 34 now and shore fishing today is nothing like it was when i was in my teens. This can only be put down to over fishing by the commercial fishermen and i would welcome any sort of closed season for all forms of angling if we are to protect the stock for ourselves and our children
i'm found and manage the first and only Black Bass association (BBF)and give all our moral support for sea bass when needed. We share the same problems for freshwater black bass !
I feel it would be the best thing to do and the only real way of conserving any fish stocks for the future of anglers like me and all my fellow club members
I cannot believe that this slaughter is being allowed to continue. Greed and a complete disregard for a future fishery. Do our fishermen really want bass to go the same way as the ormer?
Guernsey want to lead the way in the world by baning smoking to protect its citizens but want to come last in the world in protecting the bass stocks. ?
Common sense says fish must be protected during their breeding season. At the same time the minimum size of Bass taken should be increased to protect stocks for our children.
