We, the undersigned, agree that the Island of Guernsey needs a closed season for Bass to ensure that the spawning fish at the fishing mark known as Boue Blondel are protected. We would be strongly against holidaying in an Island that does not actively protect Bass stocks and permits the mass catching of spawning Bass.
I am a well to do Dutchman en traveling around the world, for work and leisure. Fishing, more specifik flyfishing, is mij big passion. And YES places where they understand the importance of sea life and the preservation of sport fish are preferred in mij choice of destination. Visiting Guernsey is much more intresting if choice's are being made to protect the wonderfull bass !!Even better I would visit Guernsey if these decisions are made just to honour this policy, and this is a promise !!!
I and some friends used to go at least two times a year for a fishing holiday to Alderney. Specifically for Bass fishing. The latest years no longer because bass fishing has detoriated immensely
The C.I.'s are renowned for the quality of the sea fishing. All interested parties must work together to find a solution to preserve the fish stocks and in turn their individual interests.
I would back a move to ban bass fishing during their spawning time, to me it's madness to catch bass during spawning, they are slow growing, they must be given a chance to reproduce without, my overall view is that no net fishing whatsoever should be allowed in the know spawning areas. from what i read it seems the pair trawlers are the main problem, followed quickly by the inshore trap and gill nets. I am based at Eastbourne Sussex to rod fish there you spent a lot of time avoiding the inshore nets.

After experiencing it first hand it is outrageous, thankfully the slaughter has stopped as the remaining fish have moved on. However could it of been the school that a couple of guernseys locals pair trawled and then chucked tonnes of bass over board?? it must have been some sight seeing tonnes of dead bass floating down the russle! these type of people should be punished severly!
