Amid the swirling BCS controversies that took place this past college football season, perhpas the biggest travesty was the automatic BCS bid given to an undeserving, and unapologetic Pittsburgh team who proceeded to be routed by a team from the Mountain West. To say the Big East's automatic BCS bid is deserved is a joke. How can Big East officials say it should retain its automatic bid with a straight face? Fair or not, the Big East has been decimated by the loss of Miami and Virginia Tech, and is now on par with the other mid-major conferences of America. As such, the Big East should be treated accordingly and should have to play its way in to the BCS games (much like the Utah team that blasted the Big East out of the Fiesta Bowl did). The Big East should lose its automatic BCS bid, and it should be awarded as an at large bid.
