Keep Black Tie Nightlife Open
Published July 2, 2007
Black Tie Nightlife, 3201 New Bern Avenue, Raleigh, NC 27610, has been a very popular night club in Raleigh, which has provided weekly entertainment for the adults of Raleigh, Durham, and other surrounding cities. However, recently, a person was shot and killed and another one injured when a gunman opened fire behind Black Tie. Furthermore, there was another recent shooting that took place at a nearby Waffle House and it appears that Raleigh City Council is trying to connect that shooting also to another recent shooting that took place at a nearby Waffle House to Black Tie. As a result of these tragic shootings, the Raleigh City Council is considering stripping Black Tie of its amplified entertainment permit, which would prevent Black Tie from playing ANY music in or around the establishment. This action will ultimately cause Black Tie to shut down since Black Tie is recognized as one of Raleigh’s top Hip-Hop/R&B Nightclubs.

We want Black Tie to remain open and to be fully operational with all current entertainment and service licenses/permits, especially the amplified entertainment permit. We want the Raleigh City Council to recognize that Black Tie does not promote nor encourage any violence or other happenings in or around its establishment nor along New Bern Ave. Black Tie has made every effort to keep it’s establishment safe and enjoyable by increasing security measures within and on its property. However, Black Tie’s jurisdiction immediately stops at the end of its property line in either direction. Therefore, Black Tie cannot control what takes place beyond its perimeter without the assistance from the City of Raleigh and Raleigh Police. So, we also ask that the Raleigh City Council as well as the Raleigh Police Department recognize that Black Tie has limited jurisdiction and limited control over what takes place around or near its establishment and requests additional assistance in patrolling and regulating the surrounding area.

This petition to keep Black Tie fully operational as a nightclub will be sent to the members of the Raleigh City Council as well as presented during the July 10th City Council meeting, which is the next scheduled City Council meeting.
