Come on people. We all deep down understand that Michael Howard is a busted flush as a viable prime minister in waiting. Getting rid of Boris is just further proof of how out of touch Howard really is. My prediction; the Tories will never return to power with Howard at the helm. Never. Not ever. Not a hope. Promise.
To remove this man from public life is to once again descend into a political climate with nothing of interest. Scandals are for petty hacks and housewives, surely in a modern age we can ignore such irritating nonsense.
Two Oxford educated, professional, twenty something friends I was having dinner with the other day, neither of whom are Tories, told me they would vote for the Conservatives - if Boris was leader. Not because he's funny, or appears on HIGNFY, or looks like he's been dragged through a hedge backwards; but because he's intelligent, a brilliant communicator of ideas, and appears to have conviction - and can express that conviction without seeming insincere.
I have no idea if Boris will ever rise to party leader. But even if he doesn't, the Conservatives can hardly afford to marginalise someone so obviously talented and so attractive to the very people they need to win back.

In a day and age where politics has become so dull that most people simply turn a blind eye it is important to retain people with charisma in the most important positions in order to win back people's interest. If someone asked me to name a parlimentarian who is lovable, charming and able to connect with the people then only Boris Johnson springs to mind.

So many people of my age think Boris is great- he was the only appeal the Tories had to younger people.

Boris' personal life should have nothng to do with his career. he has done a perfectly adequate job, and has brought an interesting face at last to the Tories. Anyway, isnt this the sort of thing tories just do, and always have done throughout history?
Boris Johnson is a lively and interesting MP, probably one of the better known ones- reinstate him as Shadow Arts Minister, otherwise you are alienating normal people from Tory politics; you need someone up there who is well known and loved by the people. In my view, Boris is the future of the Conservative party. He has been a breath of fresh air in politics and should be restored to his rightful place on the front bench.
