This verdict is insane. While I realize that our culture's perspective on punishment may differ, even so, this is just a foolish jail time sentence. The Indonesian government must realize that they are sentencing a HUMAN BEING to losing TWENTY YEARS of her life for such a petty crime. Both logically and humanely, this is insensible.
I wept at the results of her 'mis'-trial. How can this be classed as fair - to throw out all of her defense, to accept what sounded like obviously collaborated testimonies from customs officers and then give her 20 years and the Bali Bomber only 3 years. Boycott Bali - it is obviously VERY unsafe in sooo many ways.
for one why didn't the brisbane customs officers give evidence? as far as i'm aware the sniffer dogs go over all luggage before it is loaded on an international flight!!!! or is the government lying about the hightened security at our airports. if schappelle were to have put the drugs in her luggage it would have been detected well before it was loaded onto the plane. mr howard if it was a member of your family you would have moved heaven and earth to reveal the truth. so why should any other australian citizen not be accorded the same????
I believe she's innocent. i can't understand why the federal police apparently did not do enough to stop the trafficing through the Aussie airports, i only hope to god that they are in the middle of a very focused investigation and they will uncover the evidence which vindicates Schapelle. Many believe in her and i hope she can hold on til the authorities get their act together. Its obvious that there are huge holes allowing the real criminals to escape through. It could have been me. God bless Schapelle. We will keep this injustice in the spotlight for as long as it takes.
Isn't it about time the Australian Government got some guts and protected it's own people. It's fine to go running around being all macho when you have the USA as your bodyguard but when it comes to John Howard having the guts to do something on his own to protect his own people all he can say is we must respect their decision. This is about an innocent girls life you can't afford to respect a wrong decision if it ruins someones life. Get some real guts John and do something about it now. I live in the UK and need to say that this is not just an Australian issue, this is Global, this sort of thing should not be allowed to happen to anyone, every country should be involved, this could be any one of us. Schapelle needs to be returned home or the world should take action.
Schapelle is innocent and i am very angry and discusted at the sentence handed down to that poor INNOCENT young AUSTRALIAN woman. It goes to show what little regard the Indonesian justice system has for AUSTRALIANS when shapelle got 20 years and bashir got 18 months for orchestrating the deaths of over 200 INNOCENT people.
A grave injustice, it is unfortunate Ms Corby is being held by these people who have such little rergard for human rights. The only way these people will respond is if a pressure is placed on the Indonesian economy. I for one would be happy to boycot all travel and trade to Indonesia until this issue is resolved in an acceptaible manner.

Schapelle must be vindicated and brought home where she belongs free. I have rang various Government Offices, had letters published in Gold Coast Bulletin and written a letter to Queen Elizabeth. Schapelle is innocent and we cant give up hope until she is back on the Gold Coast free and cleared of this crime.

I've heard about this terrible case with the young Schapelle Corby who is found guilty in smuggling marihuana in Bali.
I hope you will do everything you can to get this girl back to Australia to serve her verdict - NO ONE should spend 20 YEARS in a prison in Bali for that crime she may or may not have done.
I live in Denmark and visited your country for 6 months in 2001 and I know that Australians are warm, friendly and civilized people who can not let this thing happen to any of it's beautiful people.

Why are there so many people talking about us Australians and how we do this and that better over here! We have a government who have locked up refugees who are fleeing countries that have the same, or worse, legal systems as Indonesia. We have a government who has not done a thing to help find the person who planted the drugs in Schapelles bag. How hard could it be to find the person. It had to be a Qantas employee who was working at a certain time. It seems very dodgy that this person has not been found. If it were John Howard's daughter I am sure it would be a very different story!! Please stop making racist comments, it really isn't helping Schapelle. We need to be focusing on Qantas, Alexander Downer and John Howard to find the evidence to prove her innocence and not commenting on other peoples races. It is a shame that throughout the world people convicted on drug charges, for a light drug such as marijuana, are sentenced to longer terms of imprisonment than rapists or murderers. Bali needs to get their priorities straight.

Schapelle was not convicted beyond reasonable doubt.I watched the whole judgment being delivered. Crucial evidence given in her favor was simply ignored by the hanging judges.The chief judge appeared determined to preserve his perfect score of 500 convictions in 500 drug cases.At times he sounded almost hysterical. I felt anger such as I cannot recall and will boycott Indonesia and its exports until she is freed.
