As a popular game by Zynga, this has captured attention worldwide. It currently has 52,408,349 monthly active users (1/10/09) and is only in its "Beta" phase.
Whilst they are working and trying to make "improvements" to the game, it is causing a lot of frustrations and problems with players such as myself, as logging into Farmville has become more and more problematic.
Repeated attempts to get in are failing frequently through every route, some access resulting in gifts disappearing, ribbon awards not completing and showing on the feed on your wall - the list goes on.
Clicking onto the support link to Zynga (http://zynga.custhelp.com/app/) does not actually do anything to appease any losses suffered.
I personally have lost at least fifteen gifts in the last month with three or four ribbon awards not completing to show on my wall. The standard reply from Zynga goes along the lines of:
"As you may or may not know, Farmville is currently in its Beta testing phase where we iron out the last remaining kinks and squish the last remaining bugs. We have been made aware that there are a few pesky issues that our customers are facing at the moment and we apologize for the inconvenience this has caused, however these issues are exactly why we beta test in the first place and are to be expected throughout the beta testing process."
With this volume of people playing, they should try to keep its playability smooth and constant, not give headaches and grief! When you search Farmville in Facebook, there are 242 Fan Pages. Admittedly, not all of them are actual fans in favour of the game (quite the opposite), some nothing to do with the game, but that is still a hell of a lot of people out there.
There is now a backlash starting, with a lot of VERY annoyed players wanting to throw in the towel at their frustrations. We ask Zynga for extra land to expand. All we hear is "Coming soon". We get more hassle and then we suddenly get a new gift of - a hot air balloon.
(Just what every farmer needs.) And baby elephants (apparently the circus was in town for 48 hours..). Needless to say, we all felt they were rubbing our noses in it.... (Or were they trying to be ironic - giving us elephants when we are all struggling for space with our existing livestock and crops.)
More pointless exercises have been to allow the animals to wander (this is clearly using up a LOT of their technology) and putting some faint sound effects of a dawn chorus of birds on the opening home screen.
How often have players been ejected in the middle of play because their gameplay was "out of sync with the server, error code g4"..? Or up pops the screen, "Saving your game, please do not exit your browser" or something like that.
At the end of the day, all we ask Zynga to do is - please PLEASE stop doing pointless things to the game we all used to love, just let us play it without hassles, let us access it through any of the routes available to us... gifts, ribbon rewards, notifications or even their homepage (http://www.farmville.com/) - in short -
STOP TRYING TO FIX SOMETHING THAT WASN'T BROKEN IN THE FIRST PLACE......
