I am not a big fan of the Backstreet Boys and I am still offended by MTVs actions. The Backstreet Boys put out a video to be played, people want to see it, vote for it and view it on a channel they watch that stands for "MUSIC TELEVISION." Not playing it, to me, is ridiculous. There are worse things than pop music, something that helped bring TRL to its peak a few years ago. Plus, MTV doesn't seem to frown upon playing and promoting the pop princesses, Ashlee and Jessica. Oh but wait, is that because they provide MTV with hours of reality television, that they can rerun until we're all blue in the face? "Just Want You to Know" is hardly heavy, thought-provoking material but what on MTV is these days? "Feel Good, Inc." or "Helena" are hardly musical masterpieces either. Fans come in all varieties. Give the MTV audience a little credit, they've got to have a more diverse taste than what eyeliner-wearing boys or bleach-blonde girls MTV deigns to play right now.
Hey BSB have every right to be on MTV as every body else. Its not fair. Pop music is music and BSB is a great group. So play the video and all the videos.

Who is MTV to decide what their viewers like? This is going completely against what MTV/TRL is about. If they choose to not play what I and countless others want, then I choose to forever quit watching MTV and all related shows/movies.
Whats the fuckin point to trl if you people are gonna play whatever you want to play. But when mtv was trying to make the trl show work, who did they get to come more than once to help you get ratings for your sorry ass show! how could you all not play the backstreet boys on the countdown? Its not right that you all are shuting them out, you just put kaci brown on and she is pop music and touring with the guys. I am so pissed that a station made for ALL TYPES of music now is refusing to play one OF THE BEST BANDS AROUND 13 years. Play BSB.
if your going to ignore fans requests then change the name total request to limited request-trl and mtv in general seem to be trying to suggest whats hip instead of taking the pulse of music tastes in general
It shouldn't be up to a t.v. station to dictate what music we listen to. If BSB earns the votes then their music should be played. Not playing their music for a fear of the return of pop music is immoral and unjust. I am disgusted and if it keeps up then my time can be better spent watching another show.
By saying that you will not play BSB's videos is totally going against what TRL stands for. People should decide what music should be played. Not the network heads!

BSB ruled the airwaves of MTV in the past and has made MTV what it is now. Unfortunately I don't get MTV anymore but the only reason that I wanted it in the first place was so I could watch BSB on TRL. I live in Canada and our music station, MUCHMUSIC has BSB in high rotation on showing their new videos. It shows that we the Canadian fans love and support BSB and their videos, therefore MUCH supports that by playing them. If TRL is for the people by the people then they should play whatever the fans request. Whose right is it to say that were not going to play BSB b/c they don't want pop music to return. Then if that is the case, then stop playing fuckin Justin Timberflake, thats pop music. Give me a break! No matter what happens there will be BSB fans supporting BSB when they are together making music or not. IN the words of a famous MTV saying.."WE WANT OUR BSB!!"

I do recall a certain music video including 5 wonderfully talented guys dressed as monsters was TRL's very first number one video!! This is sooo wrong. TRL is all about the fans voting to see their favoite vidoes and now they are holding back BSB??? I mean, why won't they hold back other musicians? No wonder I never see the BSB on TRL anymore. I mean BSB has always been the best and always made music history.
