The stretch of 16th Ave North, in Calgary, between Deerfoot Trail and Crowchild Trail, is one of the most blighted stretches of roadway in the City — or, indeed, on the entire Trans-Canada Highway. We, the undersigned, request that Calgary City Council pass a motion to recognize this fact and embrace it by renaming the aforementioned stretch in honour of one of southern Alberta's pioneer characters in fiction: Albert "Bertie" Buzzard-Cholomondeley — the creation of Bob Edwards of "Calgary Eye Opener" fame. "Bertie" was a "remittance man" whose attempts to bamboozle his noble father out of the family fortunes delighted many readers in Calgary and beyond, around the turn of the century.

The renaming of the street "Albert Buzzard-Cholomondeley Way" would instill in Calgarians a sense of cheeky pride in the hustle and bustle of commerce that characterizes this section of 16th Avenue. In addition, in being named after one of the first fictional characters to inhabit these parts, it would serve as a reminder of our artistic heritage. We believe it would be a worthwhile project for Alberta's Centennial and urge City Council to move to make the change with all haste.

All those who support this petition are losers through and through, get a life and stop worrying about minor things as what the names of roads are. The only reason my name is on here is so I can make you all aware of how stupid your ideas are.

Didn't think 16th could get any uglier? Build a Home Depot on it. I say we rip out another street and plant some trees. But don't touch Annie's Bookstore.

The strip does look awful, and it's always entertaining to learn some history via road signs.

Anything to improve the flow of big trucks and cars from east to west in calgary is a great idea... we still have no free flow road but maybe Memorial is that road in the near future. The name change is good ... but keep it short.

If 16th Avenue has a sister, it's Hastings Street in Vancouver... Go for the name change.
