All those who support this petition are losers through and through, get a life and stop worrying about minor things as what the names of roads are. The only reason my name is on here is so I can make you all aware of how stupid your ideas are.
why stop at 16th ave I was trying to think of a street that wasn't blighted and had some problems- I've got a few ideas about the alley my apt overlooks
Didn't think 16th could get any uglier? Build a Home Depot on it. I say we rip out another street and plant some trees. But don't touch Annie's Bookstore.
Anything to improve the flow of big trucks and cars from east to west in calgary is a great idea... we still have no free flow road but maybe Memorial is that road in the near future. The name change is good ... but keep it short.
I heartily concur with the name change... in honour of the creator of Albert Buzzard Cholomondeley, all bars on the soon-to-be-former 16th Ave should offer a free drink to anyone who can still say the full name correctly after 10 p.m.
This initiative will certainly have a favourable effect on my property values, given my close proximity. The current blueprint for the expansion of 16th Ave. includes wide pedestrian corridors, and strooling down the Albert Buzzard-cholomondeley has a vaguely European ambience.
I'm all for cheeky pride especially when it comes to hustle and bustle. If Council were to move on this, I would be forever grateful to them and of course to Lee Shedden (whoever he is)
Being from Saskatchewan, I have seen some ugly stretches of road However, upon moving to Calgary, I have noticed that 16th Ave. is far uglier than anything I've seen before! Give the ugly bugger a bit o'
class!
Love this idea. We all too often demolition those remanents of the past for glossy, shiney present...16th only sounds like stockmarket numbers. GO Cholomondeley!!!
Just think of the boon this would be to urban cartographers! As far as I know they haven't had to issue new maps of Calgary since the much debated construction of Madigan Drive NE in 75!
I cannot think of anything that would better promote Calgary's colourful history. I am certain Calgarians (and their elected representatives) will embrace this wonderful idea.
Boffo idea! May I suggest an introductory "pronouncer" sign at each end of the road and -- in the spirit of brevity (and to help the folks in the City of Calgary sign shop) -- the adoption of the abbreviation A.B.C.Way for the smaller signs along the way.
It's about damn time someone did something about this! I am confident it will succeed despite the failure of the past campaign to change the Mount Royal portion of 30th Ave. SW to "Chickenshit Way".
Montreal has seen its own name-changes.St. James became St. Jacques. Dorchester became Rene-Levesque. I'm certain Calgary should celebrate it's history with such an appropriate evolution. Besides, what charm or charisma is derived from "16th ave"? I believe I speak for all Calgarians when I say ' I agree with Erin C., Cholomondeley IS fun to say'
