Goal Progress:
Fireworks signify our freedom, but the law has taken these liberties away from the public.
Since the 1930's local and state agencies have been fleecing the public and creating a new class of criminals with firework laws that are nothing more than attempts at controlling methods of celebration that should be left for common sense.
Claims that firework laws, (California Health & Safety Code), protect residents and prevent property damage are nothing more than a farce and a con on the communities in which they are enforced. Compound this with the fact that authorities pick and choose whom they convict with such misdemeanors, and you have the making of a corrupt and broken system.
Fireworks sold in the continental United States are often illegal to possess just miles away from where they can be purchased. This creates confusion with what is considered legal and illegal. Most individuals would consider consumer or retail establishments open to the public incapable of selling something that is illegal. Sadly, many Californians find out that this is not the case.
It is high time we take back our freedom and choose to have the liberty to celebrate our nation’s freedom. Join me and countless others in signing this petition to over turn California’s corrupt firework laws and grant a bit of freedom back to the public.
Currently, California has very few cities or counties that allow even allow the sale of use of “Safe and Sane” fireworks. Communities such as Colton, Adelanto, and even Fontana sell these, “Legal” fireworks making thousands of dollars for local non-profit organizations, but these are cities that are bordered by others in which even possession of these “Legal” fireworks can be a misdemeanor or even a felony punishable by large fines and jail time.
Just as blaming weapons and bullets for killing, maiming, and destroying property is a logical fallacy, so to is blaming fireworks for these same acts. It is the individuals incapable of safely using fireworks should be dealt with accordingly and only when such a situation deems punishment.
This is our State, and we have the right to change the laws that no longer suit us. With one voice we can make a difference changing the face of celebrations to come.
By signing this petition, I/We certify that the California Health & Safety Code State, Part 2, Chapter 1, Section 12500 et seq., California Admin Code, Title 19, subchapter 6 are both unjust and unconstitutional and needs to be repealed. Furthermore, I/We demand the governing bodies of our local and state government adhere to a timely resolution of these matters.
