This petition supports the DCR’s decision to improve Callahan State Park by having dog walkers use leashes.

Without these rules, people cannot walk the paths of Callahan to enjoy the wonderful nature it has to offer. They are always concerned about unwelcome advances from unleashed dogs. The dog owners always insist their dogs are friendly. While that may or may not be true, it simply doesn’t matter. No one should have to be approached, sniffed, licked, or jumped on by an unfamiliar dog. Many of us would love to enjoy the park more. Callahan State Park should be a relaxing place to walk for everyone. When dogs are off leash along the paths, it’s anything but relaxing.

Unleashed dogs not only bother walkers, but they come onto private property, and bother horseback riders and bikers as well.

The park should be for everyone, not just for dog owners who like to let their dogs off leash. The DCR’s Leash rules still welcome unleashed dogs in designated areas. This is a fair compromise so that EVERYONE can enjoy the park. If you agree, please sign this petition to support the DCR’s leash rules at Callahan State Park.

I support this petition. I own property abutting the park and and have had numerous annoying/dangerous/expens ive problems with other people\'s dogs. The dog owners must start being responsible.

I think we should ban bikers and horse riders. The dogs should have the run of the park. Anyone who doesn\'t like dogs should be shot and T Weisman is a fucking idiot and I\'d sick my dog on him if I ever run into him

i was lead to believe the land was donated for a park with the stipulation that dog's can run free. If this was not the case, I'd support leashing, otherwise the land should go back to the donor.

I believe state parks should be for all to enjoy, without worrying over being approached by unleashed dogs.

05-27-07 just got back from the park my daughters, six and nine, were jumped by two, large, ULEASHED german shephards. They were scratched on the face and arms! Leashes should be the LAW !!!

leashes are simply common courtesy. any considerate dog owner wouldn't resist this much needed rules change.

All you people need to get a life. Callahan is and always be a dog park. If you don't like dogs go to any of the other 50 parks within 10 mins of there. If you don't like dogs are affraid of dogs or are just clueless Go elseware. The DCR has agreed to keep CP an off leash dog park so time to move on people or share the park with the dogs. Or like I said if you don't like dogs go to one of the many other parks that don't have dogs all within 10 mins of CP.

I'm afraid to walk in Callahan because of dogs roaming in packs.

It is a shame that we can't walk or take kids sledding in the part without worrying about being bitten.

I cannot take my children sledding there without an unleashed dog running up to them. They are now scared to go to the park.

I miss being able to go to Callahan, it used to be a quiet place to enjoy nature. Now it's Doggie Play Place and little more. Too much dog poop - that's unforgiveable. Mass. State Parks are for all taxpayers - none should become as exclusive as Callahan has become.

As a runner I often use Callahan as an alternative to the roads. I've observed that many dog owners/walkers do not have full control of their un-leashed pets. As a result I've been chased several times, forcing me to stop and walk. Also, because I have a fear of dogs in general I find I'm more at risk of being bitten. I also notice that some people bring 3-4 dogs into the park at a time and let them run free...how can they possible have contorl over them.
