As a Canadian and a Hockey fan I was very upset at the fact that the CBC did not show live coverage of the Bernie "Boom Boom" Geoffrion tribute on Saturday night March 11th. This was a tribute to a Canadian hockey icon and the extenuating circumstances surrounding it were impossible to ignore. The fact that Mr. Geoffrion was in ailing health but had pledged to make it to the ceremony but couldn't because his condition had worsened made it even more compelling. To make this sad story even more tragic, if that is possible, he succumbed to his illness the very day that he was to be immortalized for ever in the rafters of the Bell Center. As he lay dying he told his wife to go there that night and participate in the ceremony along with the rest of his family.

How could the circumstances and mystique surrounding this event be lost on the CBC? I guess the only plausible explanation has to be that the CBC is no longer the bind that ties all Canadians. I am certain that most Canadians, even if they were not hockey fans, would have appreciated this compelling story and would have liked to be there for the family even if it was just symbolic through the magic of television.

To make matters worse the previous week CBC and the Toronto Maple Leafs gave a tribute of Tie Domi on playing his 1000th game. I guess they felt that this was an amazing accomplishment by a marginal hockey player and more important than showing the Canadian public a truly unforgettable moment that will forever be etched in the minds and hearts of those who witnessed it. Thanks to the short sightedness and utter disregard for all things that don't emanate from Toronto I like many others across this country will never have that memory.

I think it is time that the CBC abandons it's current philosophy with regards to Hockey Night in Canada and start giving the rest of Canadians what we pay for from this Crown Corporation and that is a truly national Public Broadcaster. We want the CBC to cater to all Canadians and give us what we rightly deserve and not just what the ratings tell them. After all the CBC should not be driven by ratings but what is in the best interest of the country. On the night of March 11, 2006 that was clearly the Boom Boom Geoffrion story.

CBC, We Canadians treat this song as our identity. You are suppose to reflect the average Canadian. Do not get rid of the song or you will disappoint all Canadians and it just shows how out of touch you are with Canadians.

Ratings dont even reflect true percentages as if you LOVE hockey you have no other choice but to watch that god awful team that need not be mentioned.

The CBC is funded by every Canadian taxpayer. Please produce a hockey broadcast schedule that is equal for each of the 6 Canadian teams. (Each of the 3 Eastern Conference teams shown equally, and each of the 3 Western Conference teams shown equally)

I wa fortunate to see this touching story and the ceremony on RDS. CBC's decision not to air this event was, in my mind and I m sure those of every hockey fan in the country (yes even toronto fans) the biggest black eye a 'public' network can descend to. The ceremony and the story leading up to it were one of the most touching and memorable stories and broadcast s I have seen; CBC blew it big time.

Watching the bottom feeder Flyers vs Leafs game, when the most hyped game of the year was on, Sabres vs Senators, was an absolute joke, CBC get your head out of your ass and play some decent games, Canada does not rotate around Toronto, but I know something CBC can rotate on. Darren Kardynal

What a shame, I didn,t know that Mr. Geoffrion had passed away. I believe the CBC should show Canadiens games equally as much as they show the Leafs.

Toronto is not "Canada's team" it is , fact a team that is universally hated outside of Toronto. You need to respect that there are people in this country outside of Toronto that Pay your salary.

the whole country of Canada gives you money to run cbc not just Toronto so you need to show more games from across Canada

On one Saturday night, CBC affilitations across the country ran a Toronto-Washington game and guess what? Toronto lost as usual. As far as my Canadian geography teaches me, Halifax is a lot closer to Montreal than Toronto and there are many Maritimers that are Canadiens fans as well as other NHL teams. But they had no choice but the Toronto game. The CBC even ran a hollywood-style re-cap of the game highlights. All for a team that's in last place in its division. Enough is enough!

It is a misappropriation of millions of Canadian's tax dollars. Those who would like to watch something other than the also ran leafs every week and pay the government to represent them in all aspects of cultural life. Completely ridiculous.

The CBC is so wrong in ONLY showing LEAF games instead of ALL Canadian teams. Canada is HOCKEY not The Leafs. How did the CBC make it's money all those years the Leafs were not in the play-offs? By Montreal,Calgary and Edmonton winning or going far in the play-offs while the Leafs were nowhere but in the basement. I want to see 2 Canadian teams play instead of the Leafs and an American team play. HOCKEY NIGHT IN CANADA should mean just that...not Toronto. Imagine how Habs and Nordique fans used to feel when the Battle of Quebec was going on and the CBC showed Toronto against the Blues. It was a shame since a rivalry like that was being ignored by Canada because the CBC would kneel to the advertisers in Toronto. Smarten up and show the games Canada really wants to see.
