The CBC continues down a foolish path in eliminating their mainstays and attempting to refocus on markets that don't care about them and find them irrelevant.
Must we dumb-down EVERYTHING for the masses? TV is bad enough these days without having my favourite radio station catering to the idiots of the world.
The cuts to classical music on Radio 2 are a shame. Any station can play easy listening or light jazz, but only CBC plays classical music that is not just commercial free, but often full movements and long pieces.
The digital world has already greatly diminished the need for radio amonst a listening audience. To remove the few programs which made this station unique will surely see the death of the CBC.
I can go to any other radio station for 'light' music. If you reduce classical music on CBC2 you have lost me as a listener. Please leave the classical music programmes as is. Thank you.
I strongly object to the proposed diminishment of classical music on Radio 2.This is a major dimension of the heritage of west ern civilization. Hold high the flame! Don Grayston
I used to be a regular listener to CBC 2. Sadly, many of the excellent programs I enjoyed are no longer available, so I no longer listen. Please restore Classical music and the intelligent appreciation of the Arts in Canada and abroad to CBC 2.Thank you
CBC Radio 2 is a pale shadow of its former self - and about to go further downhill. I have almost stopped listening, and so have my children. It used to appeal to listeners of all ages, now it appeals to no-one.
Thank you for taking this action. I have been meaning to write the CBC because I miss the news I used to hear on CBC radio 2, and now I turn the radio off for the day after the couple minutes of news at 6 pm.
I'll be turning off your channel soon. Tom Allen is one of the few reasons I listen to CBC 2 anymore....YOU ARE BORING! Please support classical music in our community!!!!!! If you won't, who will?
Please reconsider some of the best radio programming in North America. Music such as opera actually has a growing audience among young people like myself.
I am a true blue X-Generation, and truly believe that CBC has made a HUGE error in their LACK of jugdement on what type of music we listen too ! I love Classical Music, but espeically interested in Canadian Artists performing Classical works. CBC was the only place one could do this.. I can't believe we would only be left with 96.3 Classic FM.. because that station is a really, REALLY bad, example of a ' Classical Music' Station ! and I hate it ! I am left with nothing if CBC continues with it's new formate ! By the way my three 19, 20 and 21 year old neices and newphews grew up on Classical as well as pop.. and they too will miss the ' old CBC ' !!!
Thebig swivel chairs at CBC believe that they need to change the format to attract a younger audience. What they don't seem to understand is that CBC listeners were in for the long haul. I started listening when I was a teenager and I am still listening. Well I was until this latest program change.
This programming change is yet another example of the dumbing down of our national standards, and the sheep-like lowering to a mediocrity that continues to plague what, at one time, was considered a society of high intelligence. This action should not be considered by any Canadian national institution, especially one that has been held, internationally, as a leader in information, education, and intellectual pursuits.
I assume this has to do with the new ownership of CBC, was that Moses Zneimer? Anyway, I've noticed how the CBC is slowly adopting the shallow practices of Much Music. For example how they play those obscene glomobi commercials. I STRONGLY feel and can’t understate how reformatting the CBC is just plain BAD. It’s a very broad step to becoming alike a country like USA. I cannot understate how my own development as a person was affected by constantly listening to classical on CBC as a child as well as the personalities and content that is associated with that. This flagrant abandonment of such a crucial Canadian institution along with the way the Alberta oil sands have been handled, well, recently I have really started to feel ashamed to be a Canadian. Because we are taking for granted our virtue. The reasons why this Country has been so pure and successful is simply because of our actions and the choices we make. And if we cant see that then we wont know what he had until its gone.
Please reconsider - there is no reason to play music that we can all get elsewhere. Radio 2 will slide into irrelevancy and die a slow agonizing death.
Dear CBC, I am 17 years old. I listen to classic rock, punk, metal, disney, and believe it or not, great classical music. In the past, whenever i have been working on any kind of school work, or need time to just take a minute back, or even when i'm trying to get revved up to go perform on stage, I would turn on CBC for some kind of concerto that would point me in the right direction, or a composer with a great name and an equally great song to go with it. I am not 65, I enjoy classical music, and quite frenkly, I think it's very silly to take it off the air. Your demographics are superb! I have all sorts of friends who enjoyed CBC, and all of them are between the ages of 2-24. Why take that away? If it's age you're worried about, don't be. And if it's popularity you're worried about, changing CBC to playing Diana Krall every day instead of the regular piano/concerto/awesome music that was there before-the pumping, authentic, original, dangerous endeavers of old composers-will diminish your popularity. To zero. May I recommend bringing back the classical music, and letting the other
We're so luck to have the CBC. Don't shut the classical programming down - our national classical musicians NEED the CBC to help promote them, to help further careers; We need the CBC to provide a classical music market to our entire nation - especially the balance outside of major centers!Restore Radio Two.We are listening!
For years I have benefited from the intelligent thoughtful programming as I commute to work, make supper, relax in the evening. I am not one of those people you think you are catering to by limiting this programming to 10 am to 3 pm. I like many LOSE OUT. Please reconsider.
Us Canadians should have the option to listen to Classical music on radio any time of the day! Don't force Canadians like me to listen to scratchy US radios just for Classical music!
This is the one progranm that has given people through the years much happiness and joy in the ability to listen to truly fine music. Please do not take away part of our cultural heritage by replacing it with watered down music. We get enough of this noise. Thank you for classical music.
Today's youth and the youth of tomorrow need a chance to hear where music is coming from! Listening plays an enormous role in what we learn from music.
As an emerging classical pianist pursuing a performance career, Tom Allen, Jurgen Gothe, Andrea Ratuski and Shelley Solmes with programmes on CBC Radio 2 broadcast tracks from my Nordic Passion CD. Please make classical music a top priority again in your programming.
