How despicable of the CBC to do this to the public. I am an 18 year old high school (soon to be university) student that listens to CBC Radio 2 first and foremost. There is no other station set on any radios in my house or in my car. Growing up in rural Nova Scotia is a hindrance to hearing live music, especially
I am very upset to think that CBC Radio 2 might no longer focus on classical music. You can hear jazz and light classics anywhere - who needs or wants to hear more?
In addition to the above named programs the rumored loss of Music and Company, Studio Sparks, and Disc Drive are deeply disturbing to me. Clearly your intention is to dumb down the station which really is a national treasure, in attempt to increase ratings. I believe this to be a travesty.
I am very sad to hear the programming changes as I take immense pleasure in listing to these programs. As a new immigrant to Canada, I learned a lot about classical music through radio 2 and particularly the very programs you're cancelling.
This saddens me to no end. CBC Radio 2 has been part of my classical livelihood since university days, and I can't imagine the Canadian airwaves without this classical infusion.
The CBC IS Canada to me, and having a strong cultural base with great arts and classical music programming makes us better as a country, reveals to us things we may never have imagined, and exposes us to a world many have never explored.
Keep CBC Radio 2 the way it is!! (But bring back the Arts Report.) If I wanted to listen to pop, I'd already be listening to one of the zillions of other stations that broadcast that!
I miss especially the evening classical music performances, and am grateful to Espace Musique that partially fills the terrible void brought on by changes to programming at CBC2
I live in rural Nova Scotia and have been a listner to Radio2 since its inception. Radio2 has been a wonderful way to keepin in touch with Canadian and international classical music
We are not only losing music, we are losing people who are interested in their listeners, and we are loosing the connections between listeners through the request parts of these programmes.
I've been an avid listener since my teens. I'm now in my 40's. I find the steady erosion of the CBC extremely upsetting and illogical. The CBC is alienating long-time listeners like me - for what? What is the purpose of the CBC - to boost commercial ratings, or to encourage and support the arts across Canada? We don't need more commercial/pop/easy listening/elevator musak stations on Canadian airwaves. Diana Krall doesn't need air-time support. What's next - commercials? I am sure Moses Znaimer is rubbing his hands with glee, his ratings are going to skyrocket. I am particularly sad that Rick Phillips'
I have been a CBC radio listener since the mid forties and it continues to be my station of choice dispite the fact that diminished funding has rendered it almost unrecognizable in some of its programming. Please, restore the CBC back to its excellent reputation rather than stick yet another nail into the coffin.
