Please restore our classical music programming on radio 2. Disc drive, sound advice etc are fantastic programs, with many dedicated listeners. To replace them with junk is a move that will result in the loss of the CBC core audience. the new programming for CBC is a very silly and foolish move by CBC management.
I support this petition and the more recent one relating to the discontinuation of three important shows on Radio2 i.e. Eric Freisen's, Jugen Gothe's, Rick Phillip's.
The decision made by CBC to greatly reduce classical music on the public air waves unfortunately seems to be in step with a general dumbing down and commercialization of our society. Public broadcasting has a responsibility not only to reflect our culture, but to affect it in a way that spawns creativity. A 'classical music' mandate could expand to include art forms from other cultures rather than succumb to the temptations of ratings and economy.Life is a learning experience, and CBC should embrace the opportunity to be an active part of that. Need ideas....look to France, Germany, England...or would that be politically not appropriate.
The disembowelling of CBC is nothing less than cultural terrorism. CBC was one reason I became a Canadian. Now CBC is falling behind the quality of NPR and PBS South of the border. CBC was once Canada's intellectual backbone; it is becoming an irrelevant swamp of pop culture.
CBC 2 has been a respite for me, especially since CBC 1 started sliding downhill (so glad promo girl is gone. I can quit throwing shoes at the radio). I've loved, and relied on the variety of music, and intelligent arts based discussion. Now I expect I will have to listen to more people trying to be hip, again. To the movers and shakers, do you expect to find
The long rides to and from work have been made bearable with Friesen and Goth accompanying me. Informative and such a nice break from the standard fare. As for the replacement of the 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. programme by
You have robbed me of all my favourite music programs. The only people who benefit from these changes ae young D.J's who can inflict their favourite trashy 'music' on the long suffering public!
That is why I listen to CBC radio. So I can listen to commercial free classical music, info. on the arts and quality programming. CBC radio, and television is becoming the same as all the other programming out there (commercial, tacky and uninformative) Maybe the CBC should go the reality television and radio route. CBC idol perhaps!
We used to listen to the programs in the evenings beginning at 6:30pm. Now we don't and have turned to other stations and our CD collection. Oue loss and CBc's loss!
be very wary of posting comments on www.insidethecbc.com as it is known that Mark Steinmetz censors them if they are too controversial...but do post comments else he will say only 28 people bothered to write in.
People in smaller centres all over the country are being deprived of the only clasical music radio they have. Tjhere's lots of choice in Toronto, but not in Halifax or Lethbridge or Moose Jaw. Shame on the top-down CBC management.
Young and old alike thrive on the diverse classical selections offered on Radio Two -- axing this is like axing a part of the Canadian soul! Please don't become bland and predictable like other stations! Please!!!!
This is just stupid change for change sake and I strongly object to the downgrading of CBC Radio Two in this manner. STOP the foolishness! Restore our intelligent Arts Report and Classical programming.
The imminent loss of the CBC Radio Orchestra along with the slated changes in Ragio Two programming cuts deeply into cultural/heritage icons. The decision making is short-sighted and doesn't appear to be based on any good research- and certainly not on any consultation with its audience.
The current (March 2008) changes in radio 2 programming are a loss to our society as a whole and to the performing arts community in particular. Surely when we lose the CBC as a partner we risk serious losses in the performance area as well.
When we travel in the US, we always comment on the fact that it is so hard to find decent music, except for NPR. We are (were?) always grateful for the CBC, which does NOT have a semi-annual membership campaign. Thanks to the Harper neocon barbarians, here, too, we will be more like the US than we used to be!
CBC appears to be doingwhat CNR did regarding passenger train traffic. If you take away classical music, you lose those listenersd. and ...ergo can take the entire radio service off the air.
Radio 2's classical daily programming of Here's to you; studio Sparks and Disk Drive should not be sacrificed. Radio Canada's radio 2' s classical programming has already been replaced with a pot pourri of cultural music called Espace Musique which is hard to listen to for more than 15 minutes.
I'm greatly disappointed. We are not all teenagers and CBC should not forget the constant support my generation has given to the CBC classical program.
Stop taking away the Classical music programs -they are relaxing but also very educational with all the comments by CBC Hosts. When programs are doing well, leave them alone. You are going way off track!!
Now you're axing the CBC Radio Orchestra too?! For decades, I've counted on CBC Radio Two (CBC-FM) for my classical music fix. Do you really think you're going to get more listeners with easy-listening, light jazz, pop music? The radio dial is already full of such stations. Oh yeah, and
I really miss the Arts Report, as well as the classical concerts in the evening. I certainly don't want to lose the other most interesting, diverse, and informative classical music programming.
I listen to various programs on CBC Radio Two daily, starting with Tom Allan in the early hours of the day. CBC Radio Two has enriched my life so very much and as well , through all this wonderful music and programming, I feel so connected to Canada and the people of Canada. Please reconsider any changes to your programming. We are all so enriched because of it.
I love listening to classical music and relevant commentaries on radio cbc2. I am against cutting any of these programs. The classical programming on cbc radio2 should be increased, not decreased.
Since this petition was started, many more CBC program cancellations have been announced - the wholesale destruction of Radio 2 is underway. For shame!!!
